I think HR is as close to a "no-brainer" as you'll get in RZA ....

that is not possible. longer contract could be only made until the player will be 30 yo or less at the end of the contract. So if the player is 29yo you can only offer this and another season contracts.
...in case he doesnt plan to retire already

you are right for the players 30+ yo.

.....and he just told me to RTFM!

You can cancell the contract whenever you wish. You pay some penalty which is pocket change for below 30skill players. And they player is gone. All pretty simple really.

Once you have started training players in non-physical skills you should be using the HR.

To not use it is foolish in the extreme. It saves you money.

Face it you lot we are all wrong and hosh is correct in spite of there being proof HR Dept saves money. Isn't this how it works? Hosh suggests we disagree and he keeps going until one by one we all lose the will to live?

I had read somewhere too that you couldnt fire players with HR (I thought in the manual...)

There goes my reason for holding out

Can you find it and if it is in the Manual you have Petes permission to shoot them

You can still fire players but it will cost you a small sum. A bit like firing coaches except that players wages aren't anywhere near as high.

kicking a guy (or 'cancel his contract' how it is called to fire someone) with a wage of 4.300 would have cost me 29.670 once.

Found it! Its on the warning message before you sign up for HR. It says you cannot fire players whose contracts have not run out but you can sell them on the TM. Do you want to proceed? That warning kept making me say no

You did not activate the contract mode for your team.

By activating contracts you switch the wage calculation for your whole team from wages based on skill progress to negotiated wages based on contracts.

Contracts need more time to get negotiated, on the other hand contracts give the manager the ability for long term economy calculation. If you switch to contracts for your team, you will have to negotiate contracts for each single player of your team. The disadvantage: this consumes some time. But there is an advantage too: negotiated wages stay stable until the contract ends, no matter how much training progress the player makes. You will be able to sign contracts for 1 or more seasons length. On top of this you can tag some of your players as franchise players. Those players sign longer contract periods, but those contracts cost more money too. Please note: you can't fire players as long as there contract has not finished, but you can sell them on the transfer market.

Attention: Once you decide to switch from skill based wage calculation to contract based wages you can NOT switch back.

Do you want to switch now by activating the contract mode for your whole team?

The bold is FULLY true, you cannot fire them.

Then Im confused again. HR is not a no brainer if Im unable to get rid of players if something better comes along, especially if they dont sell well in the TM. I thought people were saying you could fire them with a penalty
