Just tinkering with my playbook again. Quick question - in defence what does prefer mean ?

If in the Big I defense, you s e l e c t pass formation 3-3-5 and run formation 4-3-4 prefer rush.

Does it mean that you get a bonus for defending the rush and a penalty for defending the pass (presumably pushing the safeties up in the box).

Or does it mean (like I thought) that you think its more likely they will run so you are more likely to use your rush formation (43) but there is no impact other than what formation you use ?

Thought I'd best check.

I believe it means that if you choose pass then the def will pick the pass defense until you have run a few times then the defense will adjust for your choices.

Yeah like I thought. So basically if you think a team will always run then your only counter is a run formation.

In 2 minds about this. in theory putting heavy run/pass formations in the playbook means putting extra players on the DC which will lower standards.

Have to ponder that one.

I'm right in thinking as well you can only blitz per formation - you can't set to blitz if you guess its a pass and not if you guess its a run. Blitzing is another option I've not tried yet.

So until you're not sure that pass is coming blitz is a high risk low reward tactic. Blitz should be packaged only with pass defense to make life of QBs of teams with predictable tactics very dangerous

I assume he means, if you have two great cornerbacks and two bad ones, then putting out dime defense might not be the smartest idea, since the quality of the players fielded is weakened. Especially so if you have a great linebacking core that now is sitting on the bench.

Pretty much

Was thinking more of the Defensive Line but same principle.

Playing say a 5-2 would mean adding another DL to my DC. Assuming I don't stick someone out of position, it means adding a guy who wouldn't be in my best 50 players to my DL DC. Not sure I'd want to take a good linebacker off the pitch for a DL who isn't one of my best 50 players.

S'pose I would need to test it out. See whether having the formation you want outweighs the personnel downgrade.

How many rules are there in everybodies playbook?
Offensive & Defensive?

I got 17 on O, 9 on D.

Really too confusing for me

For my last game: 26 on D and like 10 on O.
