The question for the game developer is a bit different.

Should different positions casue different modes of caluclating points? If the punter is judged by using quality measures, should the WR too? A WR you will probably measure his success by touchdowns, catches, yards....if I do the same for the punter - counting yards...we judge by quantity...

You see the dilemma?

Yes.

But as already stated, it's also a dilemma to see players winning Trophies that are clearly not 'the best'..... IMO it devalues any awards/rankings etc.
I think it's something to be considered and/or discussed (in a general or specific sense).

From analyzing the punters who won trophies, it seems to be obvious that (at least) two numbers go into the calculation, the number of punts and the average punt length (since I don't know the exact formula, maybe also other things are used for the calculation).

Since the runner-up in Dragons 1.1 has a huge number of punts (not surprising for a bot team) he got awarded.

The question is, does it make sense to take the number of punts into the calculation? Is a punter who punts 1000 times for 1 yard each better than a punter who punts 10 times for 40 yards each? I don't think so, since it's not the contribution of the punter that the punted that much. I think in terms of punters, only the average yardage should be used for the calculation (as long as we don't have some specials, like Inside 20/10/5/CC). Maybe there should be a threshold of number of punts a player has to do (maybe 50) before he can get awarded, so not a punter with only 1 punt in the season can win the trophy?

However, I don't think that the player trophies are that much important to spend too much time on, if there are more important things to do... on the other hand I can understand the point, sh8888, or "Fred" is bringing up

At least this is my opinion - sorry Pete, to stab you in your back

No more, Pete.
From this I learned a lesson: if a simulation game have so little relevancy to the reality and so few possibilities to gain on realism, take it easy, play this game like a math one and live peaceful.
Satisfaction will decrease a lot, but there are many more important things to be angry than a game engine.

The basic question is: ignore teams that are bot at the moment of the season-rollover - this is when the player trophies are calculated.

If this can be answered with YES, then the picture changes completely.

If we answer this with NO, we have to deal with some inaccuracies...

the question after this basic decision is then about the how to award player trophies...

Ignore Bots.
Player Trophies are about 'best players' .... players on Bot teams won't be 'the best' even in a thinly populated 3.x League with many new/newish teams.

Read the question again!

A team is goign bot the day before Season-rollover. if we ignore bots...the super punter of this team would see no trophy!

The answer is still the same ...... ignore Bot teams and ignore players from bot teams.
If a team goes bot the day before season-rollover then that player is imprisoned in the player database, he may never ever see the light of day again, therefore why waste time giving that player awards ?

btw , you might need to buy some more of these - - >

your Teutonic stubbornness is forcing me to use these at an alarming rate

No need to ignore bots IMO.

I would like to answer this question with a clear YES, of course. While the punter's measuring stick might be average yards per punt (ignoring the 'specials' as Preachie mentioned), a WR's performance should not only consider total yards but also yards per catch, TDs, Drops. Every position has different responsibilities on the field, therefore there should be different ways of measuring their performance.

Naturally, there will be people who disagree just like people disagree with who gets selected as the NFL's MVP each and every year. I'm with Fred here, the awards should not be based on the sheer quantity of plays or yards.

Edit: With this we would not need to discuss whether to ignore bots or not.
