Great! Thanks for finding that Punch. So now both the math and an old Pete quote jive The preference setting is meaningless if you are using the same formation for both passing and rushing. Good to know! This will save me some time in play calling

It is not meaningless. A less than optimal formation is still less than optimal.

and a formation in pass D is still easier to run against.

#1 is the one I was asking the question about. I am positive that the rest of your points are correct.

#1 should be the managers way of stopping the opposition, I really hope that if you call the right play then it should help slow the opposition down?

No. You JUST posted a topic from Pete that said it made no difference. AND Thomastem's math confirmed. There is NO difference between calling 5-3-3 with a rush preference than a 5-3-3 with a pass preference. Where in that post from Pete are you seeing something different?

The offense coordinator can confuse the defense coordinator by settings up multiple lines for the same formation, but based on different quarters/clock settings etc...

So what this means is your playbook can sucker the defense AI into playing lets say run and then you trick it up by passing.

I think the way you are viewing things is the AI will automatically play pass D vs pass and run D vs run. It isn't that way rock..

If run D and pass D is same formation then Rock is correct, it doesn't matter which you prefer.

Rock. The defenses we pick/prefer will be over ridden by the AI and change the play type defensed if it detects a prolonged pattern.

YOU do know that don't you??...

Done trying to help ya. Good luck.

If you have 5-3 set for pass D and run D my experience is that 5-3 will always be used regardless of what other team does, I've never seen the engine override this and pull a different formation in anyone's game.

Have YOU or ROCK read ANY of this?

Of course the set formation will be used.
