In my opinion (and my experience backs this up), the ratio of WR Intelligence vs cover player Intelligence is a key factor in Interceptions. I have tried to check, if passes to my dumber receivers generate more interceptions but I have failed to see any linking between int and picks in my stats. However, interceptions are pretty rare so you would need huge data and not all passes are equal in terms of interception risk, so this is pretty tough to do imo. |

Following my QB throwing 25 league Ints in Season 22 I checked my data over a number of seasons, and the correlation was clear, and made some changes.
7 Ints in Season 23 I know it's just one team, but that was good enough for me to believe that there is something there. Last edited on 2017-01-16 16:07:22 by JonnyP |

The 2 current INT leaders in Elite league play have 43 and 38 Intel.
They are not superstar in the physical department. They have good vision and Positioning. One is 40 agil. The other lower. One is 4.5 Exp and the other 5. Last season my best intercepting CB was high physical (only 35 agil though) and good vis and pos - only 31 Intel. He was 5 exp. Kind of an experience related theme. |

Also depends on who they line up against. Like Holly said pretty hard to tell what is what with small sample sizes and LOTS of factors. My top guy for picks in the dumbest guy in my backfield, but also the guy with the most Catching (and Long Reach).
#1 CB - Hartley; 50 Intelligence; Skills ~40; 9 Catching; 3 picks in 272 plays #2 CB - Ona; 43.6 Intelligence; Skills ~30; 11 Catching; 1 pick in 243 plays #3 CB - Forbes; 34.3 Intelligence; Skills ~31; 21 Catching (LR); 5 picks in 281 plays |

I guess STR is more about breaking tackles.

And possibly making tackles.

It could be a factor in Picks (jockeying for position), but I don't imagine it is as big a factor as the others.

To make an Interception, you need only a few things! First of all the snap has to be OK. The blocks (pass protection) by the OL has to be successful. The QB has to throw. The defender has to have that special feeling "Uh, this could be into my direction". He has to beat the Receiver in terms of "quickness". He has to put himself into a better position on the field compared to that receiver. Finally, he has to make a catch. And once he made that catch, he might be able to return that interception using all these skills a runningback is usually using. So, just a few coincidences and some skills... OK snap? How can it be not OK? Haven't seen any signs of that... |
