Dude, because I'm a Niner fan from the 80's I'm a bandwagon fan? Come on now.

As for the Bulls...who didn't like watching Jordan play? I was a Sonics fan until they were swiped away. I could be a Sonics fan and still like watching Jordan play.

Yankees? Hate em. With A Passion. Mariner fan here.

Don't like soccer, so I have nothing to say about soccer.

I already explained why I'm a niner fan on my post earlier in this thread....

no... only if your a Niners(Cowboys)/Bulls/ AND Yankees fan (need to be a fan of all three). if a particular person is a fan of all three of those teams and have no geographic similarity.. then they are bandwagon fans.. i mean how else can such a fan be described?

oh god... someone who is a Niners AND Cowboys fan?

Surely such a man is not a man but an evil incantation of the least interesting man in the world.

Very surprised to see the Eagles at #3, is that from a cross section of people who already have more than a passing interest in the sport? Because I've never met a fellow Philly fan here in the UK.... not in 25 years. In fact, if you ask someone here who does not follow the sport to name 5 American Football teams, I could guarantee that very few would mention the Eagles.

And as for Baseball and Basketball..... drivel...... I hate basketball as I was always the shortest kid at school and was forced to try to play it in PE lessons.... and baseball is cricket with all the strategy, intelligence, and excitement removed.

Basically people who follow those teams are bandwagon fans. its a saying around here in the states amongst people in my age group who grew up around the time when the Niners or Cowboys/Bulls/Yankees dominated our pro sports. It takes little guts to like dynasties that win on a habitual basis. As a kid its cool.... as an adult though..

your comment about folks around the globe liking the Niners cause of the Rice/Montana/Young era brought it up to mind. you dont have to explain your fondness for any team.. it makes sense. We have a ton of Barca/Man u supporters here and its just the way it is.

The comment about some POSSIBLE reasons (not necessarily the actual reasons, just possible reasons) is fairly rudimentary .... it would be difficult to argue with what I said because it's pretty much the truth i.e as far as Football Head Coaches go , Bill Walsh seemed to be the perfect Gentleman ...... same goes too with Jerry Rice , seemingly nice guy and you can't argue with his record ..possibly the greatest WR ever to play football , full stop.

As regards Barca, outside Spain they've always had a large following, this has intensified in recent years because they do play very attractive football (ooops, meant to say "soccer" for you American guys ) ...inside Spain it's slightly more complicated .... there's the Madrid vs Barca thing going on which has regional/political overtones, so let's not go there.

Bandwagon from the 80's 49'ers ???? .....dude, you're making my ribs hurt with the laughter ....do the maths .....we're talking more than 20 years, the bearings in those bandwagon wheels must be well greased because 20-plus years is one hell of a long time for a bandwagon to roll.

The Niners were very much the bandwagon team when I was at school....

American Football was just getting a foothold here, and the 2 best known teams were the Dolphins and the Niners... if you liked either it meant you'd probably never actually seen a game on TV, and hadn't heard of any other team.

Its taken from NFLUK - to be a member on there you need to register and s e l e c t your favourite NFL team - i guess the list is simply a rounded version of how many of their members has selected each team.

I dont personally know or have met any Eagles fans myself - dont mean there are none out there though and like you ive been a NFL addict for well over a generation now. I dont know any Patriots fans for that matter, but arent surprised to see them #1!

Bandwagon jumping is a kiddie thing to do - we all wanna have bragging rights in the schoolground - but being proud of your local team (for the most part - could be team dependant!) is what its all about as you mature though. Im glad i support a much more obscure football (soccer) team though when paired up with the Redskins i know im in for season after season of disappointment and suffering!!! With the odd exception maybe....and some dawns seem brighter than others....!

So theres this new blood thats posting on in my league message boards and he's going by the handle Niners. Now theres an off chance he could be talking about the 1899s which was the first proposed team name of my home soccer team the Houston Dynamos but I get the feeling he's named them in favor of one of our most culturally liberated cities San Fransisco 49ers...

Yup. It's a family thing.
