its nice people have taken an interest in my topic but my original post was about OL intelligence and nothing else. So im going to re phrase my question. of course having 40 or 50 intelligence is always going to help but my question is... would it really make much of a difference for an OL to have 20 intel compared to another OL with say 50?
I have always thought OL need intelligence far less than any other position and could quiet easily get away with having intel in the 20 range.

then i would happily have as low as 5 in int as long as he got high in str, no probs.

I dont think int have high impact on the OL positions, but as always, its certanly not bad if you have an intelligent guy on the line.

Firstly, OL do not make decisions about who to block afaik - it's always the DL in front of them or no one.

So what might INT do?

1/ Maybe it plays a role in Vis and Pos - some sort of averaging
2/ Maybe it effects all defenders (mostly LBs but maybe SFs too) in the general vicinity, especially if that OL has no DL over him.
3/ Maybe INT (and TW of course) of OGs helps OTs to block pass rushing DEs (double teaming).

I think it's ultimately a matter of trial and error for all of us - probably compare a couple of OL with similar skills but high/low INT over a season, say 2 OGs, and swap them around in the #1 and #2 positions in the DC to get a good comparison.

May be it can help to anticipate if the Defender come through the A-gap or B-gap.

yep, that's why I mentioned Vis and Pos and their possible connection with INT.

This might be needed in a mismatched formation but not sure it would be otherwise as OL against DL its not like he can suddenly throw his arm out to catch blitz player when he already has a face full of DL man. its up to the QB or RB to assess where the holes are.
