Yesterday i realized that one of my retiring players, Arturo Ramsay, has put togehter pretty decent stats during his nine season long career...which is why i thought about reactivating wiesengrunds HoF-initiative

Arturo has been a stronghold of my oline from the beginning, during his nine seasons he has an overall regular season block success rate of pretty good 72,7 %.
He managed over 70 % of good blocks in five of his nine seasons played, peaking with incredible 82,9 % in Season 3. Worth mentioning is also his blocking rate of 82,2 % in the first ever RZA season.
Probably some of the newer managers don´t even know those days, where almost on every down the ball was rushed due to the ineffective passing engine which was active then.
This in mind makes his stats even more extraordinary.
He played at least 630 snaps every season and his last season was by far his weakest season with a success rate of 60,4 %.

Concerning all-time-records Ramsay is with 3108 pancakes at the moment the all-time AC Thunder 1.1 leader (there are two players of Chelsea Nation in front of him, who haven´t played the 1.1 for that many years...), league wide he is number 4 in pancakes (again ignoring the Chelsea players) behind three guys of Slavia Pankrac

With his 8059 played league plays he also is the Athletic (League?) leader of played snaps ever.

In real life he probably would enter the HoF somewhen, but not 'like-automatic' five years after retirement.
I also have to admit that he played OG most of the time and so he had had to face 'only' DTs and not the normally more dangerous DEs.

Nevertheless, i think he accomplished a career worth being remembered...

Pretty awesome! Is there a way for a manager to HOF a player that played for his team? It would be awesome to go back and look at the stats a player had and contributed to the success of your team. I tend to get attached to my players (from various manager games) and a HOF button on your team overview page that takes you to a page with player names that link you to that players page would be so so cool.

Okay, so I took a look at his stats:

I think this a very intersting, borderline case. At first one has to notice the longevity of his career, spanning 164 games and playing just a ridiculous amount of snaps. He has also, you know, won eight friggin' Bowl Games. Very few careers manage to even play in as much playoff games, let alone Bowls, so that of course is also mightily impressive.

But then again, in most of this playoff runs, he probably wasn't even the best OL on his team, let alone the playofffield. He is basically a blip in the radar for half of his career (S1-4) and becomes somewhat notorious (S5-7) before falling off again at the end of his career.

One can make a lot of arguments here. Even in his dominant phase, he could have pretty ugly games for instance (S5 + S7 Bowl). On the other hand, even if he never had those truyl incredible peaks, he had so much sheer volume of "good" play, that he entered the all time Thunder 1.1 top 10 in Pancakes, even if he managed to be in the Top 10 in only one season if his career.

Me, I am really on the fence on this one. On the one hand I would want to honor such a long and consistent career. On the other hand, I find it hard to see any standout performance here, so his overall stats seem a bit like a case of "he survived his competiton" - he hang around long enough with a good team and a good unit around him, which he never really "led" in any way.

I think the picture would clear up a bit, after we take a look at some of his colleagues (how he compares to other Landru/Slavia/Budapest lineman of this first generation), so my vote would be right now to POSTPONE this debate until we have a clearer picture, but I would be happy with any other outcome too, that is how torn I am on the subject.

What are your thoughts? I think it's a really interesting case.

evaluating OL play in RZA seems even harder than IRL... to me his stats look great. I don't know what positions Notsch used him at, but the only OL-Position thats usually above 50 % in blocking success rate on my depth chart is the RG, no matter who I'm playing there. so having a guy above 50 % over the course of 25 playoff games is pretty awesome imo.

Yes, notsch already said that he played OG mostyl, so I think his % numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

But I struggle to see him for insatnce alongside Marek... Marek has an alltime record that will be very hard to beat and has beenn in the top 5 of his position for most of his career. To put him alongside somebdoy who during his three-year-peak can be called a borderline Top Ten Performer seems a bit off

But I can certainly see the case, and as notshc said, he might one day fit in very well, even if he isn't a sure fire first-Ballot guy like Marek.

Yeah, so he will not be among the first inductees, but i think this thread might pop up again somewhen

So i think we finally figured that one out

His stats are okay, but especially when looking at olineplayers you have to see the specific position behind the stats to judge about the greatness of a player.
On a sidenote i also think it is not easy to decide about CB, SF and DT/NT players. Those guys do not put up huge numbers (have maybe have switched position which makes it even worde) and also those numbers...sometimes i think those stats simply don´t reflect the players skill level. I mean: is there a HoF SF out there?

Anyway, after this season four of my players will retire...but none of them worthy to get called for the HoF IMHO.
Allthough among those players is Leo Corcoran. He is the Athletics all-time franchise leader in nearly every defensive statistics besides interceptions. But he also has by far the most play and i believe in comparision he is just above-average. Haven´t checked that in detail, though...his jersey number (i am pretty sure it is the 91) will get retired no matter what

Two Oline veterans and my No. 2 WR Gernot Köhler will join Corcoran into retirement. And next season maybe my two Top-RBs might want to retire too

Look at the bright side: At least they know that they will have a pretty strong HoF case when they retire!
