Alright here we go, last couple of days I've been trying to come up with a way to pick the best players from our league without any sort of human element. The only way possible is through the HoF because naturaly I don't have the time or desire to go through every team's players as you may imagine.
So what I did was, I used what the HoF offers stat wise and tried to find out who were the top players in each position on Fire 1.1 last season. Now bear with me this is far from an accurate measurement, but it has no human hand on it other than me copy pasting stuff left and right into a spreadsheet where I have some formulas, simple addition formulas that is. Why? Because I tried to combine at least two stats for each position, and was able to do so, except for two of them. Offensive Line where we only have pancakes in the HoF so it was based on that only, and Safety. There are no Safeties in the HoF under defensive stats, so that position is empty because like I mentioned the idea of this is to only use HoF stats to come up with a Pro Bowl team from our region. I gave each ranking a specific point, a very simple formula. Top 3 Rank 1 = 55 points Rank 2 = 52 points Rank 3 = 48 points Bellow that it was point by point until the last ranked player (50th) who got 1 point. Then in all position (except the already mentioned OL & SF) I combined at least two stats, as follow. Offense QB = Pass Yards + Pass TD's RB = Rush Yards + Rush TD's FB = Rush Yards + Rush TD's WR = Catch Yards + Catch TD's TE = Catch Yards + Catch TD's Defense DL = Sacks + TFL + Tackles LB = Interceptions + Sacks + Tackles CB = Interceptions + Tackles So to give you an example of how this went. Imaginary QB named James was ranked 1st in Pass Yards and last in Pass TDs, he would have gotten a total score of 56 points, 55 from the 1st place & 1 point from the 50th (last) place. - - - PRO BOWL STARTERS OFFENSE QB: Costinel Starciuc - Lisbon Mighty Lions RB: Byron Flaherty - CARDIACJACKETS FB: Valeriy Vishnyakov - Maykop Dynamos WR: Zeusef Teixeira - Lisbon Mighty Lions WR: Senne Meijer - Lisbon Mighty Lions TE: Tito Aberasturi - Ravencitos TE: Pablo Soler - Portlanders OL: Piero Gherlone - Lambruschia OL: Brian Brock - Mighty Magpies OL: Thanh Ferris - Mighty Magpies OL: Luke Bone - CARDIACJACKETS OL: Macario Ferri - Lambruschia PRO BOWL STARTERS DEFENSE DL: Maxime Janmaat - Scheper Rams DL: Bram Van Leeuwen - Scheper Rams DL: Waylon Mosier - Portlanders DL: Filipp Sazonov - Maykop Dynamos DL: Timofey Novikov - Maykop Dynamos LB: Juan Weinstein - Gattopardo LB: Lance Shaffer - CARDIACJACKETS LB: Nevio Varvelli - Lambruschia LB: Ulvi Saad - Schwaben Spartans AFC CB: Hans-Detlef Friedrich - South Park Angry Beavers CB: Alin Mladen - Schwaben Spartans AFC CB: Robaire Rhoden - South Park Angry Beavers Now to present the Pro Bowl Selections based on this selection process. Top 10 per position. OFFENSIVE MVP Source: http://i44.tinypic.com/20uq4io.png DEFENSIVE MVP Source: http://s29.postimg.org/kh3hvow6f/dmvp.png To see the full list of results be sure to check this spreadsheet where you will find the complete results. PS: I also have done this to see if it was possible in he future to have a Pro Bowl game (between regions) where there would be no human involvement in picking the players. I think it's perfectly possible to make it happen, if I without access to more than 50 players could do all the positions but one (SF) it's possible to make this happen, if people wanted it to happen. EDIT: LOL IT SEEMS TINYPIC WAS ACTING UP AND INSTGEAD OF UPLOADING THE RIGHT PICS THEY WERE UPLOADING OTHER STUFF. I REPLACED THEM BUT THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN...LOLSOFUNNY! EDIT II: TO ADD PRO BOWL STARTERS...DUH! :FP: EDIT III: TO FIX THE # OF PRO BOWL OFFENSIVE STARTERS AND ADD ONE OL! Last edited on 2014-01-10 17:58:57 by canonico |

Interesting idea but I think a Pro Bowl's already been suggested and turned down although I could be wrong.
Regarding my team I'm not surprised to have almost no Pro Bowlers as most of my guys rotate a lot. 55 guys on my roster and starters play just as much as backups. |

Not turned down, I talked to Pete about it very recently and it never got of the ground because people couldn't agree on who manages the teams and how to pick players. It's a doable thing from Pete prespective as long as we get a solid background to it. Per say. To me, I wouldn't even mind not having anyone manage if it creates issues, just create two random playbooks and let the players decide. Or, have last season championship manager coach the Pro bowl next season. For example, GLADIATORI ROMA was champ last season, so this season franzlandia would run the Pro Bowl Fire team that would be automaticaly picked. If the goal would be to have the Pro Bowl happen in the end of the same season, then the same would happen, after the bowl games, we would get a mini Pro bowl tournament between the regions, just for fun. I would like to see players get more recognition. You have two players that made the Top10 though, one RB and one TE. I also rotate just not in all positions. |

Yeah I saw, 10th RB and 9th TE though, hardly Pro Bowl caliber players. Which team plays with that many RB/TE?
Good news about the Pro Bowl though, I'd quite like to watch these games and I'm all for the league champ managing the team, it's a nice bonus. Last edited on 2014-01-10 04:17:38 by Meitheisman |

Well what they could do is have the managers in the championship be the manager of each region, and have the pro bowl be before the championship game like in the NFL. |

I also think it makes sense for the league champ to manage the team. For the record, I had completely forgotten to add the Pro Bowl starters! I placed 12, so to many man on the field! Deal with it folks. To have a manager, it should be only one manager per region, the timing is indiferent to me, would be whatever's best of Pete schedule. This is only a fun thing, no need to take it too seriously, except for region bragging rights... |

Great stuff I'm glad to see my 3 players in Pro Bowl
Funny enough that there are no starters from the last season Bowl finalists. Just 2 small notes: 1) I can't see the 5th offensive lineman among starters. Maybe with such QB and backs the team doesn't need so many blockers 2) Selection criteria for CBs are seriously flawed imo. I know it's not your fault, it's a lack of the needed stat like "passes defended". |

I know it's not your fault, it's a lack of the needed stat like "passes defended". It's not flawed, I did said this isn't meant to be accurate. Naturaly there needs to be more stats in the HoF, specialy for DB's, batted balls or Pass Deflected, or Broken up Passes would do the trick. For now those that got in there were the only ones showing up in the HoF, so not flawed from my work prespective. EDIT: And Fixed The # Of Offensive Pro Bowlers While Adding a OL. Meaning I Removed The #3 & #4 WR's. Last edited on 2014-01-10 18:00:22 by canonico |

It was a shock to see Luke Bone had made the cut since moving to center. There is no doubt about it though he has been a great book in OL man. To bad he will be retiring at season end!
The bad thing about moving even an multi star experienced player to center is the position is like the waste land for OL men on here. I've moved several around through my time here at RZA and watching the stats seems evident. I think that position is under rated even in todays NFL. My Panthers is very fortunate to have Ryan Kalil. A lot of people over look that positon in the real world as fans and it shouldn't be. Oh well I usually keep my mouth shut in these forums, but I couldn't resist on this player being my other players that were mentioned didn't surprize me making the cut like he did. Great work! |
