So this is very rough, not a big numbers fest, but I thought it might be interesting to put together a 'power rankings' type of table for our league. This is based only on teams' point differential for games compared to the opponent's average PD. (I am not including any games against bots in any of the calculations.)
For some examples, if team A typically wins games by 50 points, but team B only loses by 3 against them, it's considered a "good" loss and raises team B's ranking. If team B usually wins by 10, but team A overcame and beat them by 3, it's still a "good" win and also raises their ranking. Conversely if team B usually gets beat by 60 points, and team A only won by 3, that would lower their ranking, even though they won the game. Clear as mud? Here's the rankings after 3 weeks. I am sure I will drop as the season continues and the model becomes more accurate, but I am ranked waaaaay too high right now. Fun stuff though. Very interesting!

Halfway thru the season, we have a couple interesting races. The AC North and NC North are both 3-team battle divisions. With the NC West looking like mudwrestling.
The AC has 4 teams in contention for the wildcard spots, and the NC has 5 or 6 in the mix for those WCs. |
