So, here's a first look at a DL canidate for the THUNDER HALL OF FAME

(Small superscribed numbers indicate the rank in the League in that stat)

So far I have only the League numbers (which I think should be the most important ones for the Thunder Hof), but I will do the SC and CoC numbers also in the coming few days. Nevertheless there is enough here to discuss and remember, so let the debate begin! Should Marek be the first inductee into the Thunder Hall of Fame or not? How does his play compare to that of his peers? How will it hold up in 10 seasons, when we look back? Is he an all time great or just a blip?

Discuss!

Here are my thoughts:

• The most amazing aspect of his career is probably his run defense when it mattered the most: 191 Playofftackles as a record is quite secure for a while. The second place has 111! This is probably the most amazing record he holds right now, and it could be really hard to break, since only great, perennial playoff caliber defenses only get a chance to play so many playoff games. This record is valid btw across all of RZA, not only in the Thunder region. (Leverkusen Leopard’s Jewell Temple is second with 135, still miles off of Kropacek.)

• But now, before you say, he was just riding the success of a good team around him… he actually really upped his game in the playoffs: He was in the Top 5 Playofftacklers in EVERY season of his career. Also, he was nearly twice as good in the playoffs as opposed to regular season (career average of 9.6 tackles/game vs. 5.6 in the regular season).

• His 6 playoff sacks rank him 10th in all of RZA Top Leagues, his 673 league tackles rank him 16th there.

• Never that much of a pass rusher, he still had a 9-Sack season back in the dead ball era where nobody was throwing the football. (The regular season sack record in the Thunder region before the liberalization of the passing game was exactly 10.) But that’s my only big knock on him: His sack numbers will look like nothing soon, as the pass attempts rise throughout the League.

• He did at times just take over games and brutally dominate great playoff Olines, like in Season 4, which might be the best DL Playoffrun ever: A Shutout with 2 FF, 2 Recoveries and 1 TD followed up by a 22 (!) Tackle performance (which may or may not be a DL record, has anybody seen anything better in the playoffs? Or for that matter the regular season?), including a Tackle for 1 yard gain on 3rd and 10 in his own 34, preventing a tie-breaking FG try with 2:44 left, and a punt-forcing 3rd down tackle in OT after Lucentum won the toss. He singlehandedly decided that OT-defense-only-thriller.

I think he's legit, you had me at 191! wiesengrund pretty much layed out the case. Besides his sack numbers Marek Kropácek looks like an awesome player. but those were the early ground & pound-seasons, and we would have to credit them anyway (besides having a lot of RBs in the Thunder HOF since they are a part of the evolution of the game - and just like sack numbers are rising due to more passing, we won't find rushing/run def-stats comparable to those early years either... I think this would be a nice choice.

single season records and big plays are definitely important for a HOF player, but what i like about this player is his consistency, especially in the postseason. He didn't just dominate during one playoff run he did it every post season.

can i just say great analysis.
For me the players FF and sacks seem a bit low but i am used to seeing players from lower levels. His playoff performances have been very impreessive and i think that is what matters.
so for me he would go in and would be a good basis to compare future players to.

Are there any dissenting votes here? Cause if there are not I won't bother with the SC and CoC stats, if we all agree that he should get in...

But if anybody has a good counterargument, I would be glad to hear it!
