After a disastrous last season hopes were high with the beginning of season 29 that the Munich Runners would be back to their prior strength and back in the contest for a promotion to Elite.

Then came Tuesday and the first loss of the season against the excellent team of the Java Waterboys. While the running game worked out like a charm the coach put most of his strategy on the passing game and, again, the passing game did not work. 2 interceptions and an average yardage per play of only 4 yards have deemed inacceptable my the management of the club. In the aftermath of this loss coach Aleko Scott was fired.

The new hopes are with Coach Tom Aguiar. 48 years old and highly ambitious this is the first time, Aguiar is acting as a head coach. Seeing the weaknesses in the protection of star quarterback Aleksej Hofmann Aguiar insisted on hiring an offensive linemen who is supposed to provide more security. Hasso Röthlisberger joined the club but was still unavailable for yesterdays SC match. His first start will be in today's friendly against the Constanta Sailors.

With Röthlisberger the new coach also insisted in hiring a very promising new defensive linemen with exceptional physical qualities. Daniel Medley should be a major threat to quarterbacks and the running game of any team.

The hopes are high with the new coach in place. he promised to analyse all routines, the depth chart and the playbooks and make changes.

The reaction of the team has not only be positive. Especially one of the promising young running backs, Justus Mayer, was cut from the current roster which caused him to openly question the intelligence of the management. Minutes later he found himself on the transfer list. Mayer will leave the club today, possibly for Istanbul.

One of Aguiar's biggest immediate tasks will be the rebuilding of the morale. The team is lacking trust and this will all so obvious in yesterdays SuperCup match. Everything seemed fine until the last quarter. Two long Touchdowns and an interception later the Runners lost and the new head coach is already put into question by the fans.

Will the Munich Runners be back one day soon to be a real contender ?
