What a thrilling Supercup showdown at the Coal Mine! The Ruhrpott Miners met the Leverkusen Leopards with the massive crowd of 140,296 on the edge of their seats. The game kicked off with Leverkusen winning the toss and opting to receive. The Leopards started strong but faced an early drive cut short with an interception by Pavel Nistor, who made a spectacular 12-yard return for a touchdown, putting the Miners on the board first.
After a successful PAT, the score read 7-0. The Leopards fought back with a determined response and equalized in the first quarter with a throw to Knud Pfeiffer, capping off a solid series. The Miners quickly bounced back on the field, displaying fierce determination, scoring two more touchdowns before halftime. The first was a power run by Brian Bolt, and just before the half, another explosive run across the left. At half-time, the Miners held a commanding 21-7 lead.
In the third quarter, the Leopards attempted to regroup, but the Miners' defense was too strong, culminating in a turnover that the Leopards could not afford. The Miners pushed their lead further to 28-17 in the fourth quarter. However, the Leopards weren’t done yet; they clawed back a touchdown to make it a competitive 28-24, striving for a comeback in the dying moments of the game.
The excitement peaked in the closing moments when the Leopards were intercepted yet again by Rodrigo Dodson, sealing their fate and allowing the Miners to capitalize with another score. The final moments were tense, but the Ruhrpott Miners managed to keep their Lead and finished with a remarkable 35-24 victory over the Leverkusen Leopards!
This match truly showcased the heart and tenacity of both teams, but ultimately it was the Miners who emerged triumphant!
