Viper Outlast Oxford Bulls in a Wildcard Spellstorm

At Hallmark Stover chocolate arena, beneath the sponsored banner of Follywood - Creating classics since 2013, a mighty Wildcard Playoff tale unfolded before 144300 witnesses. The wise forecasters had looked toward the Oxford Bulls as possible victors, yet the road through this contest proved crooked, perilous, and full of shadow.
The opening thunder belonged to Viper’s defense. James Neville read James Wood’s throw as if it were written in Elvish fire, intercepted it, and returned it deep into Oxford Bulls territory. From there, Jefferey Hines guided Viper close to the end zone, and Francesco Nevarez gathered the decisive pass for the game’s first touchdown. Eddie Pagan then struck a long field goal later in the quarter, his boot ringing like a hammer in the halls of Erebor.
Oxford Bulls did not vanish into the mist. Their offense mixed James Wood, Rubin Howe, and later Gerard Bruguera under center, pushing the ball with Nathan Aldrich, Eddy Falls, Zack Elliot, and Augustin Fulmer. Early in the second quarter, the Bulls finished a stubborn drive when Nathan Aldrich caught a short fourth-down pass for a touchdown. Denny Spooner’s conversion kick was true, and the visitors had answered the first storm.
Viper’s middle quarters were built on Jefferey Hines finding tight ends and wideouts in rhythm. Samuel Melancon, Yusuf Qassem, Lou Rowell, Paulino Martínez, and Filiberto Shank repeatedly moved the chains, while Eddie Pagan added two more field goals before the break. Yet Oxford Bulls’ pass rush also bared its teeth: Johan Mashaba, Todd Peyton, Steve Weatherford, Herbert Mullen, and others dragged Hines down often enough to shake the very roots of the scoreboard tower.
After halftime, Viper opened with a march worthy of a king returning from exile. Hines ran with purpose, Wes Turney powered ahead, and Filiberto Shank completed the drive with a short touchdown catch. But the Oxford Bulls, hardy as dwarves in a mountain gate, came back through a long answer of their own. Gerard Bruguera found Augustin Fulmer near the goal line for a touchdown, and the contest tightened like a drawn bowstring.
Then came one of the great turning moments: Jefferey Hines, charging on a keeper into Oxford Bulls territory, lost the ball. Dejan Škoro recovered the fumble and rumbled it back, setting the Bulls upon a short field. Before the third quarter ended, Bruguera again found Augustin Fulmer, this time for another touchdown, and the air in the arena changed from celebration to ancient dread.
The fourth quarter opened with even darker magic for Viper when Elliot Moss intercepted Hines and returned the ball deep into Viper land. Oxford Bulls stood close to the gate, but Pálmi Jóhannsson rose like a white staff against the Balrog: he intercepted Gerard Bruguera near the goal line and carried the ball far away from peril. That single stroke turned doom into hope.
Viper seized that hope. Hines settled himself, Steve Blair fought for hard yards, and Paulino Martínez carved up the middle of the field. At last, Lou Rowell caught a short touchdown pass to restore Viper’s command of the battlefield. Oxford Bulls still had one more reply, as Denny Spooner drilled a long field goal, and their final drive reached the red zone with the sands of time falling fast.
But no final miracle came for Oxford Bulls. Alan Binder converted a desperate fourth down, yet the clock expired before the Bulls could summon one last spell. The final score was Oxford Bulls 24 - Viper 30.
