The Jordy Field Supercup Case File

At Jordy Field, beneath the gaze of 144300 visitors and the sponsorship banner of The winners bookmaker - against all odds, Lateralus Aenema and the Leverkusen Leopards staged a Supercup affair fit for a Scotland Yard ledger. The experts had forecast a close contest, and for once the public tipsters were not whistling in the fog.
The first clue was laid by Lateralus Aenema, who opened with patient method rather than melodrama. Bradford Birch found Raleigh Larson repeatedly, Kendall Nicks moved the chains on the ground, and Wesley Gorham concluded the opening march with a 45-yard field goal. Leverkusen answered with tidy work from Coleman Mann to Ahmad Schuhmacher and Kurt Hartmann, but Radu Farcau appeared like a constable from a side alley, intercepting Mann near the red zone and returning the evidence deep into Leopard territory.
The turnovers soon became a dossier of their own. Hartwig Thomas intercepted Birch and returned it smartly. Later, Gunter Wagner also seized a Birch pass, and Thomas struck again before the interval. Farcau, however, remained the sharpest detective on the pitch, taking a second interception from Mann after the break and setting up a Lateralus Aenema opportunity. There were no fumbles in this file, but there were enough intercepted statements to fill a witness box.
Leverkusen’s early kicking game kept the case alive. Gottlieb Neumann missed from long range, then made field goals of 28 and 37 yards after the Leopards had repeatedly worked into promising territory. Lateralus Aenema then produced a polished drive, mixing Kendall Nicks, Jasper England, and Birch’s passing before Conrad Hagen caught an 11-yard touchdown pass. Gorham’s conversion was good.
After the interval, Farcau’s second interception led directly to another decisive scene: Samuel Bentley powered in from close range for a Lateralus Aenema touchdown, again followed by Gorham’s accurate conversion. Yet the Leopards did not slink from the premises. Hans-J. Bergmann intercepted Birch near the goal line and returned it magnificently, after which Leverkusen assembled a composed march that ended with Hans-Theo Schuster catching a 14-yard touchdown pass from Coleman Mann. Neumann added the conversion.
The fourth quarter brought the proper fog, the sort in which a Yard man tightens his coat and checks the locks twice. Lozan Braykov’s dangerous punt return gave Leverkusen excellent position, and Iskandar Ibraheem later found Zoran Cvejić for a short touchdown pass. Neumann’s conversion followed, and the contest acquired the air of a locked-room mystery.
Lateralus Aenema refused to panic. Birch survived sacks by Pau Fuentes and kept the enquiry alive with throws to Conrad Hagen, Dario Runyon, and Raleigh Larson. Wesley Gorham then delivered a 56-yard field goal, a mighty boot under pressure. After a Leverkusen punt, Raleigh Larson’s return placed Lateralus Aenema in business, and Birch directed the closing drive with commendable nerve. Jasper England and Hagen helped move the ball, before Dario Runyon caught the 4-yard touchdown pass that proved the decisive exhibit. Gorham’s conversion was again true.
Leverkusen had one final chance to escape custody, but the last drive faltered. Coleman Mann’s fourth-down pass for Kurt Hartmann fell incomplete, resulting in a turnover on downs. Birch then kept the ball safely enough to close the file.
Final score: Leverkusen Leopards 20 - Lateralus Aenema 27.
