And that’s it.
We have a new National Champion.
Congratulation to Ohio State winning the National Championship game.
Let’s get fast into the recap.
The EIGHTH AND FINAL SET OF BOWLs on Monday 20th of January.
Monday, January 20th
College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT&T
#6 Ohio State vs #5 Notre Dame
Notre Dame got the ball 1st and marched over the field on the longest drive (in plays) ever in a National Championship game.
With 18 plays, including 2 tries on 4th down to keep the drive alive, did the team get into the endzone and scored 1st.
But Ohio State was not shy for an answer and scored on their 1st drive with 11 plays to tie the game.
And right on that drive it was already visible, that the Irish defense was not that sharp against the Buckeyes, as they were in other games. Of course, that could have been a misleading impression, or something which can be adjusted by the DC, but no, Notre Dame did play bad and they did that often throughout the whole game.
And the offense did play even worse. Next drive of Notre Dame? 3 plays, punt.
Next drive of Ohio State? 10 plays TD.
Next drive of Notre Dame? 3 and out.
Next drive of Ohio State? 12 plays and a TD before the half.
Ohio State did play great on offense and defense and the Irish did look outplayed and outcoached.
Well, 21:7 at the half, and Ohio State will get the ball after the break. Over? Well, not so fast.
Ohio State started with a TD and Notre Dame stayed bad, but then the Buckeyes were held to a field goal and Notre Dame found their offense and scored a TD plus a 2 pointer.
At that time, 31:15 for OSU.
It did look like Ohio State would grind it out, but fumbled the ball after a catch and Notre Dame got the ball back, the 1st time with no Buckeyes scoring after a drive.
Unfortune the Irish got stuck before the endzone and the ND-coach did decide to kick a field goal, which did hit the goal post and was no good.
Lucky for Notre Dame, the next OSU drive was controlled very well and they had to punt the 1st time in the game.
The Irish took the ball and made it to the endzone, again with a 2-pointer. Suddenly it was only a 1-score-game, 31:23.
Still more than 4 minutes to play did Ohio State take the ball and eat the clock away, were close to being stopped, but kept the drive alive with a big play. At the end they did kick a field goal and gave the Irish the ball back with 26 seconds to play.
Notre Dame did try of course to do something, but everyone did know, it was over.
Final score for the team, which had a remarkable transition from Conference Championship cast out to National Champion, 34:23 Buckeyes.
For Notre Dame still a great season, which did give the team a great reason to stay independent and with the HC, they will try to get back to the big dance next season.
The coach discussion at Ohio State is likely over, at least for the upcoming season. Yes, he did miss the win against Michigan, he did not win the BIG10, but won the National Championship.
The Buckeyes do still have some challenges for next season, because the current system is changing and contenders dreams can rise and fall within an offseason. Ohio State had invested a lot of money to get into this game. But the other teams will do the same.
Jacks BOWL Score: 23-19
In both Major rankings, AP and Coaches, did Ohio State get the #1 rank and no one did vote in their ballot a different team at #1.
Notre Dame was placed at #2 and then the differences in the rankings do start, where AP has #3 Oregon and #4 Texas, while Coaches have #3 Texas and #4 Oregon.
At the end, it does not matter much, if any, except the #1 place.
That's it for Season 2024/2025, I hope you did enjoy the read. I don't know why, but this season the texts did got bigger and bigger and I had to do a lot of writing to Keep the quality up. Not sure everyone did recognize it. I'm glad the season is over.
'Til next time
