Week 12 power rankings are released!
*Formula has changed to include Total TDs in the offense ranking. See discussion below* Monarchs 1 Power Rankings - Week 12 Top 10 notes: -Bradford Bulls are still sitting at #1 -Torchwood Aliens and Leverkusen Leopards move up 1 spot to #2 and #3 respectively after their blowout wins. -Black Dragons fall to #4 after dropping to a #5 overall rank. -5-9 spots are unchanged -Trois-Rivieres Oilers get launched into into the top 10 thanks to the formula change which updated their overall rank, while the previous #10 (DA Raiders) drop to #12 after their loss to the leopards. I have the feeling the formular for the overall ranking does need some review.
Example: Aliens Overall Rank is 4, Letaidans is 1 That come from average off & defense Aliens 5 & 7 Letaidans 1 & 1 Offense come from average total yards & rush TD & Pass TD Aliens 1 & 1 & 22 Letaidans 3 & 6 & 1 Dependend on what you wanted to accomplish, you take ALL YARDS, but you seem to have taken TDs individually, sind if you would have taken total offense TD, it would be Aliens 86 TDs Letaidans 68 TDs So no way the ranking would be the same if that number would be taken. So If you want to give teams credit for the rush / pass ration and want to 'punish' onesided teams, then both TDs and yards should be split, or if you want to just see who moves the ball best, both stats should be summed up. |

Hi Jack6, You actually highlighted an error in my description of the formula but not the formula itself. I changed the wording to reflect what the formula is actually doing but it still is worth reviewing: Off. Rank = Avg ranks of total yards + Pass/Rush yards+ pass/rush TDs with PF as a tiebreaker Here is how the Aliens and Letaidans will be averaged: Aliens = Total yds (1), Pass yds (1), Rush yards (13), Pass TD (1), Rush TD (22) AVERAGE = 7.6 Letaidans = Total yds (3), Pass yds (5), Rush yards (4), Pass TD (6), Rush TD (1) AVERAGE = 3.8 So it doesn't just look at total yards. It looks at total yards as a whole and the ranks of pass/rush yards individually. So if you move the ball like crazy you are ranked high for total yards but if you are one-sided and ranked low in either rushing or passing it will take your average down slightly. I think that is pretty balanced as far as yards go and reflects overall team strength (pass heavy teams wouldn't do well vs pass stopping defenses if they also can't run the ball, which would make them lose and get ranked lower in the end). In order to make TDs more balanced to fall in line with the yards, I went ahead and added a total TD column as well. That does make everything more balanced I think and I updated the week 12 rankings to reflect that. Here is how the Aliens and Letaidans will be averaged now : Aliens = Total yds (1), Pass yds (1), Rush yards (13), Total TD (1), Pass TD (1), Rush TD (22) AVERAGE = 6.5 Letaidans = Total yds (3), Pass yds (5), Rush yards (4), Total TD (3), Pass TD (6), Rush TD (1) AVERAGE = 3.7 Thanks for bringing this to my attention, hopefully this will increase the ranking accuracy going forward. I went back and updated my previous post as well. I really wish there was a total yards allowed for Defense. That would make it even more balanced but oh well... It could be that Peter did create / provide an interface to game actual game data, per game.
If that's true, in theory you could pimp your stats by that dramatically. But I'm not sure it still exists or better it does exist at all. He did mention it somewhere in the past. |

Next week's matchup vs the Aliens will determine if the Buills have the #1 seed locked up for the season or not. -Black Dragons move to #2 from #4 after a bot game and secure the #1 defense rank. -Aliens and Leopards both have blowout wins but not enough to secure their spots since the Dragons moved up. -Letaidans are still sitting at #5 -Burnaby Bruisers fall from #6 to #8 thanks to a huge upset by the Hawks! -Hornets and Marauders move up to #6 and #7 consequently. -MK Saints still at #9. -DA Raiders re-enter the top 10 after a bot game and the previous #10 Oilers losing to the Hummingbirds. Thanks for the power rankings. Obviously the Hornets are paying you more than I am since they moved up and we moved down. Oh well!
Tomorrow night's game against the Bulls is probably the game of the week and will certainly have an impact on the power rankings for both those teams. |

Can't wait for next season when you rank me too low and I refuse to bribe you. I have more dignity in my 3rd right tentacle than the Hornets and Aliens combined!
