A noob question:

In the match orders we have a place to s e l e c t how we want to handle substitutions. The options are "Based on Fitness / Energy only", "Don't substitute" (with some situations by quarters) or "Based on playbook rules".

How can I use the last one "Based on playbook rules"? It is never available for selection to me. There is any way to s e l e c t this option?

Thanks in advance!

One of my ACs is retiring after this season. Will there be morale and TC penalty if I fire or replace him during the season?

The manual just says that there won't be financial penalty for firing/replacing a retiring coach, but there's nothing at the part regarding retiring coaches at the morale and TC penalty section.

I have found a couple of pretty old posts which imply that there won't be morale and TC penalty in such a case (here and here), but maybe it has changed in the meantime? In the changelog I've only found this:
2012-02-26 14:51:36

replacing/firing retiring coaches has no negative effect anymore;

Jack's guide however says that firing a retiring coach will result in financial, morale and TC penalties.

Help the confused n00b who doesn't know it after playing the game for 4 years

on firing a coach: moral and TC hits apply! (no matter if the guy was planning to retire or not)

on replacing a coach: moral and TC hits apply! (no matter if the guy was planning to retire or not)

There are no financial penalties on retiring coaches anymore, which the entry from the changelog is refering to as well. I confess, it is quite a poor description. If I ever meet this Pete guy, I will call him a sucker for this one.

To describe it from another point of view: if a coach is goin to retire, the players lose moral. The players loved their coach and will miss him, no matter if he retires in peace, or gets replaced once he announced his retirement. And, the players will lose moral: "oh, the new coach won't have the balls to make we working hard on myself, let's have an easy training session from now.

Ok, you can argue this is all bullshit, but at least it is a honest answer representing the current status of the game.

Just my expierence on this:
Usually you want a specific setup of coach as replacement, with some values a bit of inside a range, like CB coach with CP = 79, exp min 2* and max 5* and con min 3,5* and max 5* and on top age between 20 and 50 as example.

That kind of coach usually does not come up very now and then.
So waiting until offseason and then kick him or let him retire, is from my point of view a bad move, since then you need to find the replacement instantly.

I always looked for the coach and replaced him, regardless the loss inside that position group. I might lose a crucial game, but I still have my training and the moral and TC do rise fast with each game and maybe you add a players lounge as facility on top.

Or, if you get kicked out of the season early, you can use your longer offseason, again without waiting for season rollover.
