Bet the NC West Week #7 Recap
3 big wins and zero losses = A very good week. Weasel Traders Traders more than covered hanging a 55-13 loss on the Silvers. Vancouver Corsairs covered in the 37-18 win against the North Sea Jarls. and The Minnesota Minotaurs took 3rd place in the west with a 12 point win against the Kladno Ravens. Love me some division games! First up: (8-0)Michigan Weasel Traders @ (2-6)Minnesota Silvers +12 Tale of the tape: MWT 80.0/910 MS 64.6/596 Let's just be frank here. The Silvers offense is to blame for this seasons woes. They have failed to score 20 or more in half their games. The D is doing fine and all you Chad Thurman haters beware! Chad woke up and had a great game with a pick and 7 tackles last week against the undefeated St. Pauli Packers. Defence will be key if the Silvers have a chance because; The Traders have failed to score 40 or more only once this season. The Weasels have a #1 rated run offense that doesn't seem to require the 13th ranked passing attack to put up the points. The short history between these two squads has shown the Traders winning by increasing margins. First by 2, then 18 last season and 3 weeks ago a 42 point whupping . Give the 12 and take the Traders. (4-4)Minnesota Minotaurs @ (7-1)Vancouver Corsairs -6 Tale of the tape: MM 63.6/531 VC71.1/912 The Minotaurs have been making hay against non-division opponents in the first half of the season. Wins over the Smokers and 3 of the AC South got them their 4 wins. That time is over. This is the first of 5 division games in the last 8 that will see exactly where the Mighty Minnesota Minotaurs (3M) stand. That 1 division game they have played was a doozy almost beating the Corsairs at home(24-23). This time is different. The Corsairs have been falling down the “Picks thrown” list and Corsairs #2 pass attack vs the Minotaurs #30 pass D will allow smooth sailing at home for the Corsairs. Love me some more division Matchups! First up: (2-7)Minnesota Silvers @ (4-5)Minnesota Minotaurs -2 Tale of the tape MS 65/595 MM 63.2/533 First ever matchup between these two proud franchises with basically a pick'em game. The race for the top of the West is over for these two but who gets the last place pickle trophy is still up for grabs. The Silvers know what it means to play in the NC West and they have their pride on the line. The Defense is not just Thurman anymore. DL Lance Gentile is turning into a monster and the Offense under QB Richard Bruton has shown some life recently. Long time readers know of my love for the Minotaurs and their will to fight and cover the spread. LB Danil Dundas and company will put up a good fight but in the end it will not be enough. Take the 2 points and the Silvers for the road win! (8-1)Vancouver Corsairs @ (2-7)Kladno Ravens +14 Tale of the tape VC 72.1/916 MM 62.3/513 The Ravens complete their tour of the NC West this week after a (34-13)win against the Silvers, and Losses against Michigan (62-7) and the Minotaurs (36-24). Despite their record the Ravens are only 1 game behind the Italian Bears for the division lead. Still, it is shocking to me how far Radu has fallen. Meanwhile Vancouver QB's Cary and Chisholm have the #1 Corsair passing attack flying. Scoring in bunches, take the Corsairs to cover the 14. (7-2)Copenhagen Chargers @ (9-0)Michigan Weasel Traders -6.5 Matchup of Division leaders here could easily be the SDMOTW. The Chargers are 2-1 in the west with wins against the Silvers (38-28) and Minotaurs (47-3). Vancouver fared better, handing the Chargers a (47-10) loss. The matchup to watch here is Chargers league leading RB Pablo Gauthier vs the #1 rated Weasel Trader rush defense. Gauthier already has 1245 league rushing yards and that is more than 400 yards better than second place! But you know what I'm going to say: Take the Weasels and give the points. (3-7)Italian Bears @ (3-7) Minnesota Silvers -9 Tale of the tape: IB 53.6/533 MS 64.7/607 The Bears are leading the AC South and could steal one here from the Silvers. But I don't think it's going to happen. The Silvers are coming off a great win against the Minotaurs and have found some Vim to go with their Vigor. Take the Silvers to go wild at home. (4-6)Minnesota Minotaurs @ (2-8)North Sea Jarls. +3 Tale of the tape: MM 63/529 NSJ 75.3/750 Incredible that the Jarls are getting points at home here. Yes, they are 2-8 but they didn't forget how to play ball this season. The heat is on the Minotaurs after their loss to the Silvers last week. This is a really tough one as I don't like to bet against the Bulls. But, If I really had to bet it I would take the Old Man From the Sea and the points. Love me a division matchup! (10-1)Vancouver Corsairs @ (4-7) Minnesota Silvers +9.5 Tale of the tape: VC 72.6/922 MS 66.3/611 Rating and Elo say give the points. The Corsairs #1 passing attack against the Silver #14 pass defense says give the points. Minnesotas 20th rated offense vs a top 10 D says give the points. Intuition and intangibles say give the points. My grandmothers tea leaves say give the points. No matter that you want a world where in-division games are tossups, at a certain point you got to listen. Take the division leading Vancouver Corsairs and give the 9.5. The NC West tour of the AC South continues with these next two. (2-9)Dutch Badgers at (4-7)Minnesota Minotaurs -7.5 Tale of the tape: DB 48.1/492 MM 62.3/532 That line has moved up from 6 recently and could be higher by game time. A lot of early money is getting in with the Minotaurs. But you have to remeber that the coachless Badgers are only 1 game out of the division lead. They could always surprise. First, two things about last week. We went 1-2. not horrible but not acceptable, My bad. Let's move on. Second Corsairs at Silvers. When I wrote last weeks BNCWW, the line was Silvers getting 9.5. Then a surge of money coming out of Romania crushed the sportsbook. By the time the line had gotten down to Silvers+3, they had stopped taking bets on the Silvers. Incredibly by kickoff, the line was Even! You had to know the fix was in. Let's move on. (4-8) Minnesota Minotaurs @ (10-2)Michigan Weasel Traders -10.5 Tale of the tape: MM 63.4/531 MWT 79.9/909 First ever matchup between these 2. The young 21.8 Minotaurs are coming off a tough home loss to the Dutch Badgers(29-17). While the old 26.9 Traders had a virtual bye week last week against then non-bot Bengals (115-0). Fun fact: Traders (640)have more than 2x the PFR of the Minotaurs (319). Danil Dundas and his defense are going to need a huge day to pull off this upset. Home game, more experience, better morale, Take the Traders and give the points. Let's hope the orders were in place before management signed off. Take the Silvers and give the 3. (6-6)dERBENT CONVICTS @ (10-2) Vancouver Corsairs -4.5 Tale of the Tap dC 57.4//594 VC 71.8/914 The miss by K Gaylord Shapiro in the 4th quarter from 43 sank the Corsairs last week in their OT loss to the Silvers. But it is the Corsairs inability to score above 20 that makes them so frustrating to bet on. A #1 ranked passing attack doesn't amount to a hill of beans if you can't put points on the board. Score under 20 and you are asking to get beat. Speaking of which the CONVICTS put up 37 last week to take down a strong Northern Storm team so an upset is possible. But, let's all show some love to the Canadians this week. They could use it. Corsairs giving the 4.5 points. PS: Bonus bet. Take Cary/Chisholm +1.5 picks just to be safe.
