I think it should be a time frame from when you get a player to make the change. So if you pick someone up off the transfer market you have the flexibility to make a change in a set time.

Another option is to have a one time change available without penalty for each player. That would derail the switching back and forth for training but still allow flexibility to change roster. If this was the option I would include a pop up box asking if the manager is sure they want to carry out this action.

I think I would add the timeframe, that is what I am having in mind all the time:

You have a period of x weeks from your "sign in" at RZA where you are free to do as many switches as you like. Once the period is over each arriving player (sign/buy/draft) has its own period for free switching, let's say 2 or 4 weeks. After sign in protection and the per player period is over, you get a warning when you attempt to switch the position, that is telling you about the penalty...

sounds good

but think also about player in youth academy

normally train them first in physicals to look what position can be good for them so i dont know in the first "4" weeks what he can become in 2-3 seasons

maybe the penalty works for player in the main team but not in the YA?!?

Ok, changing position to gain benefits from training facilities should be a no go.
Best way would be to have no facility with special position training, from my point of view.

But changing a players position to play him ...
Why not?
I understand the moral hit and I'm fine with that, too.

But in general you don't change your allstar LB to RB, or are you?
He lacks carrying at least and to get him in allstar level in that means training him for ages.
THAT IS A PENALTY from my point of view.

I changed position only on three levels:
1. Initial roster
Change of position for 90% of the players

2. buying a promising player/getting a youth player
change of position after the transfer or after physical capping

3. drafting a player
change after draft, because of needs on that new position and the player fits a little bit, like getting a G and change him to CB/SF or even LB.

Jack, one little thing you are missing: you can play the LB named as RB on the position LB. There is no ingame disadvantage from playing players out of their position as long as the skills are there to play that position. So you just play your LB skilled RB all the time as LB, while he benefits from the RB extra training on a certain facility. That is the mistake. And no, I would like to stick with position specific training facilities, this would match my future plans much more than skipping the QB vision thing now.

OK, that's true.

So maybe additionaly a moral hit and a gametime "confusion" hit, when playing as LB while being a RB? (or different positions...)

Or maybe ... what about a time zone for changing position?
Like beeing 1 week a LB (because of a youth player) and he can change direct
Being 2 seasons a LB leads to a longer period, like 10 trainings or so, until he is switched.

Maybe you identified the solution right here?

Assign an out-of-position penalty. So that LB skilled RB gets hit with a penalty when playing LB. Team Chemistry and/or Morale and/or Primary skill of the position he is appearing in (for LB, tackling)?
