I just thought about it. If KR and G are positions... which skills are trained in their positional skills training?
- Catch the ball and run forward? - Run down there and hit that guy? I'm just being difficult but I really am serious in what skills are trained for those positions as I know there's a lot more to it than that. But I cant let this go... we're off the mark in KR being a only a position and not an ability gifted as a specialty trait. EVery kick returner is a Offensive or Defensive player that the team designates to do those duties. I like the KR being on the depth chart but you can't "train" to be a better one.. its just one of those things a player either has in him or doesnt. As for the Gunner... if your going to create that as a depth chart position... why not add in Long Snapper... I'd argue thats more important a special teams position than any gunner choice. But it'd be just tedious work to have to think about and assign a player for that position.. the same goes for the Gunner. My suggestion is for 3rd or 4th stringers automatically being assigned as Special Teams players that arent the assigned Returner or the kicker. |

At the moment the Kickreturning is very basic, a more detailed version will be introduced during season 2 for friendlies, and starting from season 3 for all gametypes.
But the KR has to be a mix of a WR and a HB. The Gunner should be kind of a Cornerback/Safety, at least these positions are quite equal...fast tacklers. |

So why not deleting the position "KR" and "G", but stay with it on the DC, where you can add HB/RB/WR as KR and CB/SF/WR as Gunner with no performance penalty?

Well, I can't see a difference between havin 2-4 players for gunner and KR or 2-4 extra players on CB,SS, FF, RB or WR.
From my point of view, putting a player at a regular spot like RB and a special team spot like KR, the risk to get injured and the exhaustion after the game should be higher (since he played more). The advantage of having an extra prosition is, it makes it easier for beginners to manage the lineup. How do you explain a special team depth chart to a beginner? |

You missunderstood me. I didn't want to remove the position "G" and "KR" from the Depthchart. I want it only removed as own position, which a player could be.
So a player is a QB,RB,FB,TE,WR,OL,DL,LB,CB,SF,K,P but not simply a "G","KR" or "LS". For "G" or "KR" you can put in on your Depthcart everbody you want and he will perform at 100%. |

Yeah... Buffalo's got the idea. I would argue removing 'G' from depth chart but KR is essential.
Admin... teams have put powerbacks at KR before generally as they are very sure handed and dont fumble. Naveah Davenport was a FB for the steelers in the mid 2000s and was there primary KR for a couple of years. Several teams have used FB/TE hybrids to do the job as well... Brian Mitchell was for a long time the all time leader in return yards... But my main reason for brining what bonuses does a player get at being trained at that position. As of now I have no player on my team positioned as KR or G... I just assign whatever guy I feel is best at those positions on the DC. |

There is a plan to add a "penalty" for "out of position playing", this is the reason why there is a position switching deadline on each player. It is not clear if special teams should be affected by this, at the moment... |

It would make more sense to have the special teams players the guys further down on the depth chart. A speedy wr or cb who is 4th or 5th on the depth chart make sense at kr. Gunners would be the guys who might be olb, cb, or sf that would make the most sense. If they are down on the depth chart then they will most likely be fine in terms of energy.
