Well I think 9th is not high enough for one of the elite guys anyways. So I dont think there is a big difference anyways. Just thought - why not.

Intentionally losing is not the right thing to do.

Can't ever be justified.

Logically, it's a smart move...but I agree, it's disrespectful to other managers who play hard and play fair. I had thoughts of tanking this season with my bad start, but winning my division was more important than better draft picks.

It certainly makes sense... But i don't like it.

I especially don't like it in the NFL, even though it is rare.

Play to win fairly. Tanking, to me, is intentionally gaining an advantage unfairly

Goodell wouldn't stand for it!

With Meteors.... its just bad form to do it in a game we all play for shits and giggles.. In professional sports tanking is a strategic move to a degree... but for whatever we doing... its a bad precedent for future competition...

I can't really say much because I did it once.

It was my first season in 1.1 (second season in the game) and it would've been the difference of ~15 places in the draft (Charrs topped the division with 5 wins and made playoffs). So I made the decision to tank the last game of the season and help my team in the long run.

Now that I'm more established and my team is more 'mature' I wouldn't consider it...

I don't know how you can stop it as people do forget to set match instructions, but it just doesn't feel right.

By tanking, you are admitting that the difference it makes (to draft earlier) is worth losing a game for. Its unfair on other teams not just in terms of picking earlier, but also gifting your opponants a win. In 1.1, anyone can beat anyone (I beat the Bats this season) and walkovers aren't common between the established 1.1 teams. Had the Hippos tanked on the final game against me, I'd have made the playoffs at the cost of The Swiss - that would be harsh on them.

Having seen my football team (Huddersfield Town) be relegated before on the back of another team putting out a reserve team as they had already gaurenteed safety, I'll never be able to accept tanking.

I've long thought the problem with tanking is the word "tanking".. I understand there is a strategic element involved in not going all out to win every game possible when there is no quality reason why your particular team should in fact in that game (I'm one of those people that could really care less about what fans think). When millions of dollars and careers are at stake.. the lines become a little less clear.

But this is just a free-time game and doing things like that can really disrupt the flow and enjoyment of the other players. If he had just played all his young guys in the influence of getting them experience (since he practically sold his team) or something to that effect I wouldnt have even brought it up... but to kick 95yd FGs on every play and lose by an amount that cant be calculated the Treasury department is really just slapping everyone in the face.

My post about the draft order was more than as half the league doesnt know how to draft well anyway.. it was more he is having a massive sell off in the guise of taking a break and starting over but has the competitive edge to do anything to move up 3 draft spots.

Just a thought, will that game have had a big impact on who gets relegated?
