The way I think pete could add such a feature is add a energy subing by string in the depth chart. And then have your game setting use the depth chart setting So you could set it like so 1st 90 2nd 80 3rd 60 4th injury only The 1st would sub in and out with other first string at the 90% mark. But at any time that any player would drop below 80% then the 2nd string would come in to play. And then only if a player need sub out drops below 60 then the 3rd string would come in. Be perfect something like this ... Pete, I'd write the entry in the manual for you if you could put this in. |

Just write it here, so I can "judge"...before doing anything

for reasons...mostly. There is a very thin line between a playable game, and a true football simulation...on some parts we hit the maximum possible already, in my opinion...on other parts we can do something more... It is quite easy: if you suggest such changes, do yourself a favor and write the manual for the function you wish to come true. If the "manual" is clearly understandable even by less experienced players, the addon is probably a good one. But if you think "oh boy, how to explain this to my 76 ys old grandma"...it is probably more or less a complicated thing Hi Pete, Reopening an old thread that I think died due to no proposal being made for the manual entry. I would like to propose something very similar, that being that first stringers are substituted out at the Fitness / Energy level set in your match-settings to ensure that you don’t have a situation where they suffer a complete loss of energy and the lesser players could still get a few plays in (if you make your settings appropriately) to help their experience grow. Currently the manual says, “If you tick the "first string player" tick-box, this player will be preferred by the engine, no matter what else you set for substitutions in your depth chart or match-settings. If more than one player has the settings active, the engine will pick the first-string player having the highest in-game energy. The only chance for a substitution by using non-first-stringers is then if the first-string-players gets injured.” The amendment would say, ““If you tick the "first string player" tick-box, this player will be preferred by the engine. The only chance for a substitution of a first-stinger by a non-first-stringer is if 1) the first-string-player gets injured or 2) their energy is below the Fitness / Energy level set in your match-settings. If more than one player has the setting active, the engine will pick the first-string player having the highest in-game energy." I don't think that's any more complicated than the original entry. If I get it the right way, this is exactly how "first string not ticked" is working. You determine the order by the order of players in that position. The engine will then pick "top to bottom", but with the ingame energy i mind.

Exactly so, first string works exactly as currently then if or when they are not eligible - injury or energy limitation - then it looks to the rest of the depth chart in the usual way - then if you run out of them it looks for 'other players' in the usual way. It's only the energy flag for first stringers that changes. |

To me it seems I am missing something in your suggestion, John.

It seems to me, this is what he means:
Suppose you have two QB's, A, B. Suppose B sucks compared to A, if similar fitness, but with much lower game energy than B, A starts being worse than B. Suppose further, energies are A=85, B=100.You have 2 options. EITHER choose A as 1st string, in which case B doesn't play and by the end of the match you'd be better off fielding B. OR you don't, in which case B is a starter (in which case your playing suffers early on). My understanding is that John's idea is to be able to specify the energy level for 1st stringers, below which 2nd string enters the fray. Notes: - - Of course I am excluding an injury from my model above - - I am far from feeling an expert on game settings, so it's very likely there actually is a way to handle the situation above without code modification - just by a proper choice of game setup+depth chart setup - - It is equally possible I simply misunderstood John's post EDIT: I may be wrong, but I think currently the best way to handle the model situation above is NOT TO pick A as a 1st stringer, instead trying to guess the quarter when A will become worse than B and in the game setting click the option "don't substitute until quarter X". Of course there is another way to handle it - don't let A start with low energy . Or even better - have a third QB, slightly worse than A but not as bad as C. And keep him at very high fitness for important matches ;-) Last edited on 2023-06-21 14:08:08 by jpnwrt |

For example, you can tick (or keep untick) both QBs and on the game settings choose the fitness level on the "At which level of Fitness / Energy you want start to substitute your players?" you wish to change your player. |

Please do not confuse "Physcial Condition" and "ingame energy level".
The ingame energy for both A and B is at 100% at the kickoff. This is why I said "then do not use the first string tick at all". |

That's right. It's not optimal (the quality of my QB would be higher, on average, I think, if from that point A and B were rotated by the engine, rather than playing only B until he drops to energy level of A). It's true though, that while John's solution would make life easier, it still would have holes that would require non-artificial Intelligence to handle it better. And the question is - where does Yoda want to put the full-stop. I.e., gain vs cost calculation. Or may be the underlying idea is - keep more reasonable QB's in the squad? EDIT: Or may be someone (that would be me) needs to get back to reading the Manual... Thanks for your comment, Pete. Last edited on 2023-06-21 14:21:29 by jpnwrt |
