well... when it is so friggin obvious that someone is punting on first down, put a penalty of any kind in. loss of a draft pick, financial penalty or things like that. or even demote them to a lower league, when it happens more often.

And yet that was a strategy that worked in the relegation game last season: link

That's why I kind of think that some limited amount of division realignment might be a good idea. NC East is a really tough division....I think it's discouraged several teams that put together reasonable clubs, but can never make the playoffs. Meanwhile, there are a couple of divisions where a near .500 record wins the division.

If a team is tanking to get better draft picks, demoting to a lower league would be throwing the rabbit in the briar patch. If you're picking in a sparsely populated 2.x or 3.x league, there's a good chance your 3rd round pick is going to be better than the 24-32 1st round picks in 1.1

A few ideas:
1) Have the engine substitute the default playbook if a team's playbook calls for punting before fourth down unless the opponent is a bot
2) Remove the option to play on relaxed in league games unless the opponent is a bot
3) If a team loses a home game to a team rated at least 10% lower, the fans should riot, increasing the stadium condition loss from 2% to 20%, 50% or more depending on how much lower the visiting team was rated. This could also include a chance for complete loss of seats if the fans are so upset the burn a section down requiring it to be rebuilt.

I'd also suggest that a warning be made public that teams intentionally tanking multiple games in a season could potentially face penalties ranging from loss of draft picks to loss of the team (the owner being assigned to a random 3.x team) This would be messy and require some tough judgement calls to actually execute, but the threat should be out there.

Maybe start with the playbook making it so nobody can punt on first or second down, unless there is less than 1 minute left in the half or something like that. There might be cases where teams may want to punt the ball before the half instead of risking a turnover. Something along these lines.

It's really a shame that people are tanking on purpose and destroying the integrity of the game. Maybe create some sort of penalty in the draft so if a team does this, they end up picking last instead of first. We do have a commissioner to review these things after all.

Some good ideas. I like the stadium condition one... tanking games sends the fans into a riot where they destroy the stadium requiring extra repairs. Maybe an entire section gets burned down.

Team chemistry would plummet... players won't resign or only at much higher costs. Draft picks refuse to sign... but reassigning these managers to a new team would probably only lead to them quitting/going bot.

I think if some guidelines were created before the start of a new season, then everyone would be aware of them and wouldn't be able to complain. Just make it clear that tanking games and using one PLAY for entire games will not be tolerated. These cases would probably need to be reviewed on a case by case basis by the commish (Pete) but if rules and penalties are put in place and everyone is aware of them then there is no way anyone could complain.

People would still complain...believe me. And reviewing 16 * 8 * 7 games on each gameday..impossible.

However, like the idea of rioting and burining down parts of the stadium...but this is too much like Soccer

Honestly, I think trying to penalize teams for throwing games will just create extra work and really not accomplish much. If you look at the top teams in RZA and can think of only one that perhaps benefitted from losing games and picking up better draft picks. Also, that happen earlier on in the game and draft picks have a much less impact on teams these days.

I'd be curious what percentage of the 896 games per game day involve an upset where the difference is 10% or more on the team overall ranking ... or even 5%.
