Marauders salary growth per season:

S9 to S17 - all < $1M salaries / a couple division wins but no getting past Pub Gang, Stallions, Bandits and Craiova back when the Galaxy AC was stacked.

S18 - $1.52M / finish G1 15-1, CfC, SC16

S19 - $2.15M / finish G1 13-3, Cup W

S20 - $2.38M / finish E 6-10

S21 - $1.45M / finish G1 13-3, Div, SC16

S22 - $1.09M / finish G1 15-1, Cup W

S23 - $1.13M / finish E 2-14

S24 - $1.37M / finish G1 15-1, Cup L

S25 - $1.89M / finish E 12-4, Div, SC8, CoC4

S26 - $2.73M / finish E 10-6, Wild

S27 - $3.82M / finish E ??? ...

That salary trend can't continue ... this will likely be my first season losing money. But my advice as an "ex-cheapskate", loosen the purse strings a little - I wish I had sooner. Ruined what could have been some excellent players, by taking them to 38-40 in ~6 stats, with extremely minimal contribution once you get past the first 3 at most positions.

And, it's more fun than being a 1.1 -> Elite yo yo.

Hmm interesting. I am also a cheapskate but not to the extreme you are. However with the latest round of negotiations I went over 4 million for the first time. This is also due however to me stacking my squad with next gen players for which I am carrying the salary already but are not making a contribution.

I do agree however that especially with the media center there is more than enough money now to loosen the purse strings a bit. However if everyone does that player prices will increase and we all pay more for the same.

However I find that to be successful you need top players at key positions and be willing to pay for them. I indeed swallowed my pride and allowed players above the once holy 100k salary barrier. Before that I used to sell them or, shock horror, even fire them.

Now my holy barrier is 200k though and my top CB is going because of it.

I don't understand why many managers focus so much on keeping salaries low while spending a ton of money on the TM.

At the end of the day if I spend $1M more per week than you on salary but you spend $24M more than me on the TM per season we've spent the same amount of money so it's not about being cheap, it's about how you spend your money.

Your assumption here is that cheap skates spend big on the TM. I don't see myself as a big spender. It's more a challenge for me based on my real-life principles.

So I can have a big salary team but I would be (and am) more proud if I can do the same with less (although by now I am also a big salary team I'm afraid).

Of course your point of seeing higher salary as a sort of transfer sum replacement is entirely valid and people need to be aware of that.

But to end I think this is the brilliance of RZA, all approaches are valid and can be done unless other games where a very specific approach will always give faster progress / better results.

My post wasn't aimed at your team in particular (or any other for that matter) but managers often talk about not spending much on salary while you rarely hear anyone talk about not spending much on the TM. I think talking about one without the other makes very little sense, it's total money spent that makes someone a cheapskate or not imo.

I know and getting to Elite without a single player from the TM is quite amazing but almost never talked about. You're basically reinforcing my point here dude and congrats on the achievement
