On the coaches page, it shows I have 8 CP left to work with, but if I bid on a coach within that margin, the game tells me I can't bid on the coach because I only have 2 CP available. Do we have 250 CP total, or 244?

it is 550 CP for all ("Advanced" - as per manual) Assistant Coaches. So yes, 8 CP should be available for you. Maybe you bid already on an other AC?

Nope, got my eye on a upgrade for one position coach. I have no other bids out. I should have 8 CP available, but when I try to bid on the coach I want, it says I cannot bid because I only have 2 CP available.

RB 72 FB 0 TE 0 WR 77 OL 75 DL 79 LB 78 CB 85 SF 0 ST 0 Sums up to 542, means 8 left. Keep in mind the "50 CP" Coaches are the ones everyone has, they do not count against your CP limit |

Right, have an 80 CP coach I want to bid on, to replace a coach I have. But when I s e l e c t the coach in the coaches market, I cannot bid because I apparently only have 2 CP available.

You have another bid open on a coach. This way the game cannot know about the outcome of that other transfer and tells you bullshit about available CP and so on. Finish that other bid first.
