OK. I've pulled a list of the draftees but really I'm just going data blind. I'm looking for basic ideas of what stats I need to think MOST about and what I can ignore for now, so I can make some kind of draft order. So, what are the most important skills/traits?
I get the impression I should be looking at Strength, Speed, Teamwork and Intelligence first and foremost. Then what about "Talent" and "Rating"? Should I be looking at the best rated, or the best Talents, or a mix....? Any (good!!) advice appreciated Thanks |

I don't remember if it's mentioned in that linked chapter, but I'd suggest having scout level 20 in your staff before grabbing the draftee list.

After the one or two can't miss perfect spd/str/tw/int/tal/traits/age that come up once every ten seasons, everybody has different things they value more. Simplified: take the already perfect player, after that take the closest to already perfect. |

"Rating" is based on the players present stats and will improve with age.
"Talent" is to inform you that the players stats can max out higher with the higher the talent is. basic example is Talent 5 the players non physical stats can max out at 50. |

I prioritize 50 strength/speed (one or the other or those wonderful occasions when its both) first because we have no idea what the draftee's caps are going to be. You might get lucky and that 44 spd player has no caps and will become a 50 spd, or you get stuck with a 44 spd player.
I like players with more EXP, but given you're a new team, any player you draft will probably be starting right away, so not quite as important at this point. Other than the QB position, I really don't care about talent. I've had players with only 2 talent that have been contributors on Elite teams. QB needs to be at least 4.5 but prefer 5 talent (that being said, my current QB is 4 talent, but has strong arm and natural leader traits providing a bump to those skills). I completely ignore the player's current rating. |

That's 34 years ago or so. Man .... |

I am only asking so I can better understand the game, but why do you ignore the player current ratings? Is it because they wouldn't play for you right away anyway?
I have been considering them as a tie breaker. Example: 2 players at the same position with ratings of 3, and 3.5 and both are 18 years old. Now I would prioritize speed/strength/intelligence/tw/traits of course. I would use the rating as a tie breaker if I was torn at all. I had thought that the rating was an indicator of how well they perform based on the important skills they had for that position. So if they are the same age is the 3.5 star 18 year old ahead of the other one in their development? I may have been looking at my evaluations all wrong which is entirely possible. lol |

I generally don't pay too much attention to the talent level unless it is really low. The only times I'd want a high talent is if it is for a key position that I want to maximize. I honestly don't want a bunch of 5 star talents. You can't afford them maxed anyway. I'd rather have them maxed at a lower salary level.
