Thank you gentlemen for the information, I have a much clearer idea of ELO. I have every intention of building a powerhouse with staying power to challenge the grey beards. I am going to dismiss the ELO scores as a feel good number for those that have lasted and am going to work diligently to lower their scores.

One thing no one has brought up is the ELO-morale connection. If you lose to a team with a much higher ELO, your team suffers a minor morale hit. As that ELO score gets closer to yours, the morale hit increases. And if you lose to a team with a much worse ELO, the morale hit can be quite substantial and set off a cascade of losses if you don't have some buildings in place to improve morale.
