Ive held off completing this aspect of the game whist i got other things in place, but believe this is now the next step for me.

Any help appreciated,

Thanks

just dont be scared and dont do too much at once

every situation that is not covered in your playbook will be covered by the generic settings (1st down, 2nd down etc) which do now contril your plays

I would start with 4th down and 3rd down and then test a few games, if the rules produce the plays which you envisioned. And dont be too predictable as the defense will adjust if you allways do the same during a situatioon

For example do it first for 1st, 2nd and 3rd down for each quarter for distance to goalline of <20 yards, <50 yards and <80 yards.

That are 9 lines per quarter x 4 quarters = 36 lines
And set when to take FG on 4th down (example 4th down and <35 yards) and when to punt (line just behind FG line, because you first want to try FG if <35 and to punt if >35).

Those are 38 lines.

For defense set defense for each offensive formation (10 of them) for each down regardless of quarter or yards to go.
30 lines total.
And one for opp 4th down.

That is 31 line.

Good for the start.

And then when you decide to go deeper set offense in a 15 yards span.
Set defense per yards to go for offense.

And so on each time you feel ready to go deeper.

I think the first step is figuring out what type of offense you want overall. Some like to pass to set up the run or run to set up the pass. I think some even try to mix it up so that the defense can't guess from the get go what it will be. The goal on offense is to get mismatches.

A couple more things to think about:

1. Flexibility. Create a playbook that can be adaptable to your opponent tendencies. Like say you noticed you opponent runs 533 vs Big I no matter if it is pass or run is a good example of a time to insert Big I into the playbook if you haven't already. A huge playbook does make it harder to make adjustments.

2. If you can I'd make a few different stylistic playbooks so you can switch it up to keep opponents guessing what you will run.

3. Don't forget situational things like:

Less than 30 seconds and within field goal range in the 2nd quarter to kick a field goal.

When you are up by a large margin to run to eat up more clock. A run or completed pass eat up about 30ish seconds whereas a incompletion is only 10 seconds.

On the flip side long passes when you are down a lot at the end of the game.

When in the final minute when you should go for a field goal or touchdown.

4. Finally take into account your personnel. Your FB and RB can affect which formations you might lean on. Same with TE's.
