Trying to figure out what to do with my players that will be 30 yo next season and might have physical decline, but with have cheaper salaries. Let's discuss...
I have some replaceable 29+ yo players that I'm thinking of just not offering contracts too... I have some elite players, one I offered another 1 year contract for and I guess I'll be keeping him into his 30s at a reduced salary. :-) Another I waiting on - - he's got a high salary, but I'm not sure I want to keep him for an additional season at his elevated salary. He's already past 30 yo so I'm assuming his physicals will get killed. Thanks, Steve SD Blitz |

That is the big question, isn't it. One unknown that maybe we can get some clarification on is the severity of the first round of penalties. Will all 30+ face the same risk, or will a 33 y/o have a harsher penalty than a 30 y/o to make up for lost time.
My personal plan: I'm OK with 50 strength linemen getting penalized one time...I seem to have a harder time replenishing the OL, so I can live with 48+ strength if the other stats like TW, EXP and skills are good enough. Any 50 spd, non-track star at WR, RB, LB or CB, I won't resign. Finding 50 spd players doesn't seem too challenging. FB, TE and SF, I'm less concerned about. In my case, I don't have to worry about QB for a long time, but I'll be watching what others do |

I have already extended the contract of 2 players with 30+ yo (a LB and an OL). Their wage expectation was lower than the one I was paying so I think it is worth the risk. I think I can take one round of physical penalties so I will track my 29 yo after the season rollover and extend the contract of those less affected or not affected at all (if I am luck - which usually do not happen).
Some players I was planning to cut at the end of season now are seeming to be viable to keep on roster. Let's see. |

They are not effective right now!
Starts with season 50. My guess is, it will get activated with rollover to season 50, so at that point the each player gets a year older and the age 31+ players get the first decrease assigned to, based on the gauss curve, so between 1% and 3% according the text Peter did write in the poll thread. And the text says it hits either SPE, STR OR A-TOG-. Not sure it means what I do read out of this, but if my interpretation come true, the dice is rolled on WHICH skill is hit with 1/3 chance for SPE, STR or AGI and then another dice is rolled for the decrease of 1% to 3%. Assuming you have an OL with STR 50, SPE 35 (never capped and trained further) and AGI 45 it means of he turns 31+ on season 50 he loses in worse case 1.5 points in STR, but he can also only lose 0.35 on SPE and keeps the STR value. And my second guess is, that's that on season 50 rollover. That means the age 35 year OL is in that season equally handled as the age 31 year old. At season 51 rollover, which ever player is still there, is again aged and then the dice works again. And so on, until in season 55 slowly the full effect can be seen on age 35+ players having made decreases since several seasons. Worst case is, that STR 50 OL plays until then and got every season a max decrease of 3% on STR. Means age 31 season 50 -> -1.5 STR 48.5 age 32 season 51 -> - 1.46 STR 47.04 age 33 season 52 -> - 1.41 STR 45.63 age 34 season 53 -> - 1.37 STR 44.26 age 35 season 54 -> - 1.33 STR 42.93 age 36 season 55 -> - 1.29 STR 41.64 That's WORST case. But reality will be, that likely STR is only reduced in 2 to 3 cases and the rest is on SPE and AGI and the hit is between 1% and 3%. So more realistic is that the OL is hit 3 times at STR, say 1%, 2% and 3%, 1 time SPE at 2% and 2 times AGI with 1% and 3%. So with age 36 he would be STR 47.05, SPE 34.3 and AGI 43.21. In the same time his wage was reduced by 10-15% per season, according to the discussion thread (numbers not final, I guess), which would mean assuming his skills were at same level as AGI 45 he had a wage of roughly 250.000 assuming a 5* EXP rating and every season say he loses 10%, so after 6 decreases that STR 47 OL with 45 skill and 5* EXP would cost roughly 130.000 Of cause every manager can do what they like, but so far the discussion sounds like 30+ players are worth shit after activation of the decrease functionality and I say that's not true, it's another manager aspect and yes at some point the player gets fired or retire, but several aspects have to be thought about. Assuming 30+ is now shit, you need to reload those players fasters. It's not the case that STR 50 or SPE 50 players do come by a docent cheaper. Especially not with the wanted TW and INT values on top. Then the EXP level has to be managed also. Even you have a replacement at age 24 or so, will his EXP be that high to substitute the 5* EXP player you just send to the eternal golf course? My guess is, not always, likely not often. So, yes, teams will look a bit different, but overall I think 30+ players will still play somewhere. I agree with jack, I did not realize that they will lose on one of their physicals, not on all of them and up to 3% is not 5%.
And as the salary drop is a substantial one, 30+ Vets at some positions where I do value very high skills will probably part of my future teams |

Could we stick with the plan that 30s old players are useless after this change? I am on the transfer market right now ...

Yep, true beside the typo. And usually, it will not be like that. The chances to face a hit on rollover are less than 1:1 over all skills. |

That means regardless what happens in details, a player can end up with no decrease at all? What happens then with the wage decrease. Also nothing, or it still happens at it's a steal then?
