Game 11

English Eagles 44 - 3 Triple8s

New Manager Erwanlouis was welcomed to the league with a trip to Kestrel Road, Barnsley to face off against the Eagles.

It was a game that was never really in doubt. The Big News came moments after the game when it was announced that QB Hugo Thrasher had lost his starting berth in the side - the Eagles opting to go for the younger understudy Edgaras Balandis for the rest of the season.

Thrasher has been disappointing in games he should have dominated this season, throwing a high amount of Interceptions in what is already a Pass Heavy Offence. Balandis has been breathing down Thrashers neck, boasting a stronger arm, higher intelligence and great teamwork.

The game itself was nothing to write home about. The defence were on song, frcing a Fumble and an interception in the first quarter as the Eagles took a 13-0 lead.

An early Touchdown from Thrasher in the 2nd Quarter moved the scores to 20-0. Strangely enough Thrasher connected for the second time in the night with Scott Hannon - who was accidently playing at TE due to a mistake in the depth chart. Maybe i should leave him there. Neither offence set the world a light after that and no further score was added.

Quarter 3 was a drab affair. The Eagles took 7 minutes to drive downfield only to be stopped on the 1 yard line. Davies had the simple task of adding a 18 yard field goal for 23-0

Finally the 133000 crowd found some excitment in the 4th Quarter. The Eagles scoring two early touchdowns, with Rickie Barry going over for a 3 yard touchdown run, whilst on the very next play Lineback Viorel Luchin picked off the 8s QB returning it for a Pick6.

The Eagles were finally in their groove and Rickey Barry added a final touchdown with 0 seconds left on the clock to romp home 44-3.

Thrasher finished with 245 Yrds and 2 TDs
Barrey had 99 yrds on 22 Attempts for 2 TDs

AC West

1. Konjarnick High Towers 11-0
2. Ghost of Bautzen 10-1
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ----
3. English Eagles 8-3
4. Poruba Jeremies 2-9

Its looking unlikely that a playoff berth will be secured.

The High Towers face both myself and Bautzen in the run in. They should easily win through with only Bautzen that may offer any resistance

Bautzen go up against Constanta Sailors and the MN Axemen in the next few games. We are praying for an upset. They will then face the High Towers where a win will guarantee them a playoff place.

The last game of the regular season sees them travel to Kestrel Road to face the Eagles. Would be nice if that game was for a spot in the playoffs, but it doesnt look likely.

Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Poruba, on the outskirts of Ostrava in the Czech Republic to face the Poruba Jeremies

Game 12

English Eagles 14-37 Konjarnik High Towers

The Eagles really needed to win this one, but it wasn't to be. It would have been a massive shock had the Eagles managed to find the W

In all the Eagles gave it a 'right good go' with the only real difference being 4 Interceptions at KEY times.

Balandis (QB) in for the usual starter Thrasher chucked up his first Interception on his very first possession on his own 37 - the defence doing well to hold High Towers to a Field Goal.

On Balandis' second possesion, to the frustration of the Eagles fans, he tossed up his second interception, which once again the High Towers returned for a Field Goal leading to a 6-0 lead at the end of Q1.

A strong 58 yard drive led to the High Towers 3rd FG of the afternoon and a 9-0 lead.

Balandis - who had tossed up 2 Interception in his first two possessions fired a 80 yard Touchdown down field to Campanale much to the astonishment of the coaching team, fans and pundits at the ground.

The Eagles were back in it, 9-7.

The Touchdown only seemed to spur the High Towers offence, who had thus far struggle for yardage, into action, and they drove downfield from their own 22 for an immiediate reply ... 16-7 at the half.

The Second half started much as the 1st did, as Balandis tossed up his 3rd pick of the afternoon, allowing the High Towers a short field - and they knocked on another 7 points for 23-7.

Balandis finally put together a length of the field drive against the tough High Tower defence, culminating in a 19 yard Touchdown Pass to TE Scott Hannon.

23-14 with half of a quarter remaining... its not beyond the realms of possibility... or so we thought...

Unfortunately with the defence tiring, after putting in a stellar effort throughout the game, the superiority of the High Tower Offence began to tell. Two Touchdowns Later and the score was - a flattering - if i say so myself 37-14.

The MN Axmen were unable to deliver a shock either as the Bautzen ran out 59-20 winners over the Americans.

It leaves the Eagles 3 games behind Bautzen in the Playoff hunt... and i dont see Bautzen losing 3.

Bautzen go up against the High Towers next week whilst the Eagles have a Bonnie wee trip up to Scotland to face the Glasgow Tigers. In what looks to be a close matchup, pre match predictions have the Tigers edging out the Eagles and mathematically putting an end to their playoff hopes.

I guess I'm happy to burst your bubble, but you don't need to finish second in your division to make the playoffs. Each division winner gets in, and then the next two best records in each conference get in. You currently are tied with Constanta Ravens at 9-4 for the last playoff spot

And suddenly the English Eagles, after many seasons of hard work, have the chance to make it to the Big Dance! Perhaps this is the Year of the Eagle....

AP reporting...New Orleans, Louisiana...mystics facilities...mystics QB coach Abram Dudás was asked about his thoughts on the recent change at quarterback for the English Eagles...

"Well it's hard to move on from an obviously talented guy like Thrasher and the guy is only 24. He's already a great franchise QB. But I'll be damned if Badlands doesn't look even better for the long term. But the concern is experience. With Thrasher having 5 stars, you gotta wonder about making that move to Badlands with only 1.5. So Badlands is already 22 and hasn't even been in the back seat yet. That's gotta translate to some negative game results, at least in the short term. We'll see what happens..."

The English Eagles currently hold the 6-seed in the AC with three games remaining...

Edit...Later Dudas was informed that the new QB's name is Balandis, not Badlands, to which he responded "my bad"

Game 13

English Eagles 21-49 Glasgow Tigers

Well,

Wow!

Our last game versus the Tigers was 2 seasons ago, in a 31-0 shutout loss. Although slightly better the 49 points against is a huge concern to the coaching team at the moment.

Balandis continued his unique record of being able to throw an interception on his very first possesion in pretty much every game he plays. Not a great stat. This gave the Tigers short field advantage, which they converted for a TD.

Redemption wasnt far away however, as Blandis drove the field, handing off to Ricky Barrey for the score.

1 Quarter down - 7-7

Quarter 2 was a disaster. Another Interception and failed 4th down attempt, both in our own half cost 14 points.

Balandis then drove the field, with 7 yards to goal the whistle blew and that was the end of the half... Playbook amended!

Half 7-21

The Eagles were back init almost immediately after the start of the 2nd half, OLB Oylev Pirimov returning a pick 31 yards for the Touchdown. 14-21

It was here that maybe the match swung. The Tigers failed to make any meaningful progress, punting the ball back to the Eagles, but once again, on his own 42 Balandis chucked up a pick which the Tigers returned for a TD.

Three Picks in and around his own 40, Three Touchdowns...

The game was gone, and the Eagles finished this one with a whimper. Turning the ball over on 4th down attempts and fumbles we limped to a hugely diappointing 49-21 defeat.

Back to the drawing board

Or the Playbook (yes i have some sort of one now)

Or to Hugo Thrasher...

Game 14

English Eagles 0-30 SH Cougars

What just happened?

So i have dabbled with a Playbook. But WOW! This was massively unexpected.

Now i know the Friendly Cup is on a different Engine or Mode... but that very same playbook just beat the Konjarnik High Towers.

Im at a loss.

Don't read too much into a such a small sampling of results. Also, I would recommend several scrimmages against a defense that plays primarily 3-4-4 with lots of LB blitzing to get a better idea on how effective your offensive PB is (3-4-4 because that is probably the most used defensive setting in the game)
