It made zero difference in the outcome of the game today, but my 3rd string QB played a snap today, despite the fact that he is not on the depth chart and my 2nd stringer was at 100% PC and was on the depth chart. I have never had this happen before.

My starter is checked as a starter, but my 2nd stringer is unchecked. Anyone know why this happens and how to prevent it in the future? My 3rd stringer is NOT ready to play in competitive games. Heck, my starter may not be!

Here is the game:

If your depth chart does not have 55 players on it, the engine does fill the remaining spots by your roster.
As far as I know, randomly, but according the positions the players have.
So, if you have 3 QB and only 2 QBs on the depth chart, it can happen they add a 3rd, and depended on the game settings for substitutions and injuries, the 3rd stringer gets a snap.

It will be the 'didn't have 55 players in the depth chart so the engine filled it up for you' issue. It's not random, it does it's best, but if you are careful you can beat it by a % point or two.

If you want to stop 'other' players getting a game then you need to hit that limit with the ones that you choose in order to stop that happening. If you want to make sure that they don't play then mark the ones in a position that you want to play as starters and don't mark the others and, baring injury, only the top ones will play.

The play where he came onto the field actually occurred in the first Q and he came on as a TE - the engine clearly rates his arm as highly as you do

12:34 Niceville Norsemen: Timmy Alaniz (TE/L) injured (Sprained ankle) during the play (Big I formation vs. 4-4-3)

12:34 2 and 10 to go on own 28, Vincent Rapp (OC) snaps the ball to Tommy Fitzsimmons (QB), Tommy Fitzsimmons (QB) selected Johnie Boss (TE/R) as target, he passes inner right for 11 yards to him, intercepted by Luigi Dickey (OLB/L) on the own 39 (Big I formation vs. 4-4-3)

12:31 Luigi Dickey (OLB/L) returns the ball, Florentino León (WR/R) is not able to make the tackle, Johnie Boss (TE/R) made the tackle, this was a 22 yards interception return (4-4-3 vs. Big I formation)

That is exactly what happened. Sorry guys, I now recall this topic before and yes, I only had 53 players in the depth chart.

Thank you both!

And thanks for looking John. I clearly did not look hard enough. I looked at the individual stats and saw that Boss had a snap and was listed under QB's. With Olband away, my game was getting boring so I was really watching TigerCats and Grail Knights going at it. I missed that Boss was playing as TE. And yeah, that noodle arm of Boss' needs a lot of work!!!

True about the arm. I am going to put a QB up for sale in a moment that may be useful for you, QB.

To find where he played, I brought up the play by play text and searched it. From the manual - public interfaces. Remember to replace MATCHID in the string with the number from the game and that it doesn't work with friendlies and scrummages.

At least he made the tackle!
