We have 16 now, and I'm guessing more might respond in the affirmative, so I'm going to see about getting it set up.
There are two options: 4 or 8 team groups. I believe the first means 3 games each and the second 7 games, so that you play each team in your group (ala World Cup). Then either way has a 4 team playoff. The first option costs 30 credits and the big one costs 50. I like the playing against more teams option, but I'm thinking maybe for this first round we go with the cheaper option. Any other opinions? I think 30cr is a good start. It's also an 8 team playoff.

The cup is set up; all those still interested, please to go Games: Friendly Cups and sign up for "The Fire Within" for your shot at earning the glamorous Fire Trophy! well, and to have fun playing each other.
 The cup will start once all 16 spots are filled. |

Yay! We finally got #16 and can start the cup!
First matches are May 15th; start prepping your playbooks. I'll post some more here later on tips, etc. Anyone else is willing to chime in too, of course. I'd love to have a good discussion to help everyone learn. I didn't know it would be double-round robin in group play. For my next post about making a better playbook, I thought I'd talk some about what BoaTek called 'fooling the engine'. This won't fool really dedicated managers without extra work, but it will make a definite improvement in most all of the matches you play.
My main trick for this post is based on the fact that the game engine will have the opposing defense react if you run the same play multiple times. For example, if you call a rush play out of I-formation every 1st down in the 1st quarter, after two or three of these rushes, the opposing defense will choose to defend against the rush the next time you use I-form on 1st down. You can use this for your benefit! Using the time, distance to goal, and down filters, you can 'set up' the defense to be guessing the wrong rush/pass option at least half of the game by switching every couple plays. For example: 1st Q, 1st down, <2:00, I-form rush 1st Q, 1st down, <4:00, I-form pass 1st Q, 1st down, <6:00, I-form rush Etc.. or: 1st Q, 1st down, DTG<25 yards, I-form pass 1st Q, 1st down, DTG<50 yards, I-form rush 1st Q, 1st down, DTG<75 yards, I-form pass Or: 1st Q, 1st down, I-form rush 1st Q, 2nd down, I-form pass (This last one isn't my favorite, but I'll throw it in sometimes) Clear as mud? You never know what time and at what yard line you'll have the ball, of course, but setting up your PB with tricks like this should create a lot of good matchups for your offense throughout the course of a match. (And against non-Elite defenses, it'll get you more long pass TDs when you have the defense set up to defend the rush) |
