Remembering back...in the test stage we had a whisk(e)y thread...

I would like to open it again - need to brag . Yesterday I received a bottle of finest Malt, a bottle of 18 yrs old Laphroaig joined my collection of uisge beatha. Damn, this is a wonder piece of gold, I enjoy it really much.

Btw. I am a "landowner" a Islay now...But somehow I am scarred because of the low-flying geese...and I am not allowed to farm or to dig for minerals...

Someone else had a whisk(e)y moment yesterday?

7 year old Longrow cask strenght... Was a recommendation from Royal Mile Whiskies starting with the words: "A big smoky hit..."

Talking 'bout Laphroig: I only know the 15 year old version, which was replaced by the 18 year old two or three years ago. And I have to say: I was disappointed. I mean, disappointed on the highest possible level, but I think the older Laphroig is too smooth and looses character. My favourite Laphroig is the quarter cask version. All the attributes of the regular 10 year old but all of them a little bit more distinct.

I've never managed to acquire the taste for whisk(e)y - however a nice drop of a good quality port or brandy, now you're talking!

Plus of course, a traditional foaming mug of English real ale....... Wychwood Goliath and Taylor's Landlord being two of my favourites.

Yes, the 15th ys old was replaced by the 18 ys old a few years ago, read that somewhere....

I know the 10 ys and the now the 18 ys. of Laphroaig only. Have to admit, I like them very much. Since I love the smoky ones, this is exactly what I would like to have in my glass. However, it seems the people like it different, which is fine.

The guys from Royal Mile Whiskys, I attended their shop this summer too, sold me a bottle of Ileach, and I love it, too.

But far enough for me to not have to drink it

I've been to Scotland a few times and it's a lovely place, especially the Highlands - Inverness and the Spey Valley. If I moved out of England it would be to Wales though, to be closer to the Welsh Forests - the spiritual home of rallying.

Wales, nice! "Visited" it 3 times when driving through it to get my Ireland ferry in Holyhead. I gave it a try and joined the locals at the bar one evening, and I understood....nearly nothing. What a slang
