So, want to brag about your great YA project? Here is a place to do so. It is not necessary to post a name, in fact I would not encourage that.

With the advent of the coaching system the YA has taken a bigger role (IMO) and as such increased some strategies. You could spread the sp around all players and keep only a handful in the YA. You could spread the points to a specific position, or you could pile them into one player.

What strategy are you using and how is that working out?

Now I know my youth below is good but I'm sure there will be someone with a better story. Have fun!

My strategy is dump all points into one player. I picked up this youth right after new years (shame I didn't get him earlier in the season..). He is currently 16 (17 at rollover) and his stats before the training u p d a t e tonight:

5 star talent
38.4 strength
31.2 speed
37 int.
11 carrying

once I get carrying to 20 this next season I will switch to positioning. If I get strength and speed to 40 each (no yellow yet!) agility is next.

I project him to be at the following when I promote him up when he turns 19:

capped at strength and speed (hoping for 45 strength and 40 speed min)
20 carry
20 pos
15 vision
28 agility

The problem with this strategy is that other players in the YA receive no extra help and the rest will not be good enough to make the roster in the upcoming years. Sadly, I'm just keeping them until I sell them.

Thats a nice strategy.. and that guy should be damn good when its all said and done.

I have 4 guys on my youth squad that are atleast 4* (3 guys actually as one is a Punter) and I'm dumping all my points into which ever guy is the oldest.

But I dont look at the YA as a means to building high talent guys though. if the economic figures are like people predict You cant afford to keep a roster of 4* talent anyway. I plan on building through the draft and MAYBE picking up a High talented Free Agent or two if the TM has any mercy. My YA is designed for solid contributors and serviceable back ups.

This is what I did, especially seeing how I only had one 20 yr old the whole season.

Same here.

There are different ways at looking at the YA now. I like it!

I see it as a way to build a player better than a draftee every 2 to 3 years. In addition I'm using it to build some decent backups. I mean it is better to have a 16 year old from the beginning than a tm player who is 10-14 in all the skill areas and 25 years old. Right? You can specifically build the player how you want.

Obviously we're not to far down this path, but my thinking is sort of find guys with decent Talent, find out where there fitness skills max out and then assign them to appropriate positions. Then promote when skills that effect salary are still low and you have a cheap player for a couple of seasons.

I'm setting the bar for talent as low as 2 stars. That means the player's skills can get up to 41 points, which is more than enough at this stage of the game.

What I'm actually looking for is 40+ TW, and a 24+ strength and speed for 16 and 17 year old players, 30+ for 18 year olds. Any 19 or 20 year old guy from the youth pull is considered junk in my eyes, and those I bid on in the TM are usually good enough for the seniors team.

Since we only get to promote 6 youngsters to the seniors, I try to keep the different ages at 6 players. Of course I still keep an eye out for better ones either from the TM or my youth pull. If I get someone better in that same "age-bracket" as the other 6 guys, I just sell the worst one to keep the number at 6.

As far as spending training points go, I already have a rough vision how each of my YA players will turn out to be at 21 without any points spent on them. Then I just play around with the numbers until I'm satisfied with what I see. This way I know how much points I want to spend on each player, and there are even some that don't need any extra points. Not really a fan of dumping everything into just 1 player until he hits 21.

Wow...I think 2 stars of talent might be a little low...I mean, you should be able to do better, I think.

When player's skills (don't mean physicals)will be around 40 points there will be another stage of the game

Why would it be? Do any of use have players with 41 in one skill? I don't think so. And of course I can do better, and I usually do. But right now physical skill caps comes first, then talent with a minimum of 2 stars that's all I'm saying. Even a 4 star guy can turn out to be junk if he hits his caps early on...

Not right now...but none of my youth academy player are playing for the team either. I'm just guessing where the game might be going.

Certainly 40+ is going to be necessarily/required for some positions when it comes to physical skills. Not sure where the non-physical skills are going.
