ps.
Granted, 11 meters is actually not 11 but 12. Yards. So can't blame the America here. Of course the world couldn't leave the challenge unanswered. Want confusion? How about 4 out of the 8 goals _in the regulation time_ scored well past 90 minutes? (ref: 2 matches of the final round in Belgium this season) But we stand no chance. Out goes frustrating killing the time final minutes by the winning team (corner areas, substitution trot, hugging the grass for prolonged minutes after any contact - you name it) in association football. In with the last 30 or so seconds (though in the first NFL match I watched it was about a minute) relaxing, congratulating, hugging each other. Enjoying the confused look "what's going on? why aren't they playing?" on Old World faces. ![]() Last edited on 2023-07-13 06:01:00 by jpnwrt |

I have no line in the playbook matching this situation, but I set the Orders for the game in the Settings "Try Field goal instead punting on 4th down when distance" to "<35 Yards". Us being on their 31-Yard-Line having 4th&13 should have activated this order and a FG-try should have been made, no? Do I oversee something? If I remember correctly, < 35 yards means, the ball spotted on the 18 yard line, since it's 10 yards for the endzone and 7 yards for the set spot of the holder. Maybe the naming should be kick distance. I suggest to do a simple rule in the playbook, which works much better. Likey any quarter, 4th down, any to go, any position, distance to the GL (and here it is really the goal line, so you have to add 17 yards for the kick distance, my rule says 40 yards) X yards, and playtype field goal and also one for punting. And I suggest also some simple rules for 'last second field goal tries'. when it makes sense. |

So I understand correctly that in the Playbook "distance" means "distance from line of scrimmage to goalline", whereas in the Settings it means "distance from kicking spot to goalpost"?

Try Field goal instead punting on 4th down when distance "?" or "Help" Text behind question mark says: This setting may be overwritten by the playbook. Please note: the distance for the field goal attempt is calculated by using the distance to goalline and additional 17 yards for the endzone and the offset for the kicker. |

I think that has been settled
![]() The remaining question Chrill is asking is: is "distance" in playbook = yardage between the line of scrimmage and the goalline. (I am nearly sure the answer is yes, but it's better if you wait a bit longer and be sure of the answer ![]() |

In the playbook:
Distance to Gl means Distance to Goalline, distance between the SPOT and the GOALLINE. No kicker offset, not offset for the endzone, just distance to goalline In the matchsettings: "This setting may be overwritten by the playbook. Please note: the distance for the field goal attempt is calculated by using the distance to goalline and additional 17 yards for the endzone and the offset for the kicker." Why is it that way? Because the Playbook uses distance to goal as distance to goal for different decisions, not only fieldgoals. The matchsetting set the field goal range, instead. |

I added this to the manual for Field goals:
If you try to attempt a field goal out of your matchsettings, we ask you for a field goal length, so Position of field + 7 yard for the kicker + 10 yards for the endzone. So if you attempt a field goal if distance is less than 35 yards, you would kick from the LOS at your opps 15, but not from the LOS of your opps 20 yards line. For the playbook, you will have to take the kicker offset and endzone offset into account by yourself. Please keep this difference in mind when making your settings. |
