Caught MLB Tonight just now and the Rays Pitcher Peralta was ejected for having a substance on his glove. Has this happened before in baseball?

Gaylord Perry was an M.D. when it came to altering baseballs, at least according to his reputation. I believe that he was ejected from only one game because of it, though. He also received a 10-day suspension for that violation.

Pitchers used to have roughed-up belt buckles to scuff the ball, vaseline on the brim of their hat - all kinds of stuff.

FFS Peralta played for the Nat's before he played for the Rays, so cheating when he plays in your team is ok, but when he is in the opposite team lets rat him out! This was adressed poorly by the Nat's manager, Hitters actually dont mind pitchers using pine tar because the only thing it gives them is more control, not more sink like spitballs. Most of the batters know who does that and when, and they are fine with it, they police themselves. So this was a coward move by their manager because he was told by a certain someone that Peralta uses Pine tar on the glove. Then he went and knowing perfectly well that he would caught him using it, whined to the umps and voilá, Peralta is ejected from the game. Now Peralta is suspended for 8 games.

Is it against the rules to do it? Yes
Did he do it while playing in the Nat's? Yes
Is this a big deal? NO
How manny Pitchers use pine tar? +50% in MLB probably

Morale of the story is, only use pine tar when you play for the Nat's or else they are going to rat you out.

As far as media reports suggest, he was outed by his own team.

Did not find anything even slightly implying it was his own team that rated him (Wich would be a cluster f#@# if you ask me why on earth would a teammate rat the guy) what i did find was a report where Pearalta says that he doesnt believe the guys that he played with rated him out, and that he talked to them prior to the game.

Heres a couple of reports.

Peralta Says he spoke to former teammates prior to the game

Report on Peralta 8 games suspension and more
