What an interesting start to the season!

First week with a few surprises:

Alaska upsetting Pisa in a defensive battle speaks to a wide open AC West.

The biggest upset IMHO: Chicago defeating Green Bay. And not only defeating but dominating. Their D seems to have taken the next step, even though there were no draft picks involved in that unit. Should be an interesting NC West over there.

The other noteworthy upset I think was Fendt defeating Pittsburgh. They kinda backed into the playoffs with a losing record last year as a newcomer to the 1.1, and they have a competitive division this time around so expectations had to be somewhat lowered, but if they can keep up this level of performance, there is no reason why they shouldn't compete for the divisional title again.

Some things also stayed the same (Landru just being a general nightmare whenever you play them for instance.. ) or returned to normal (nice to see Purdue stopping their weird downfall from last season - seems like they're back to old strength).

Looking forward to week 2! Looks like a great season so far!

My team was gutted by a ton of retirements and not enough players that I thought should be resign during the off season, but that's no excuse IMO. I was a bit shocked by the shut out tho, but not the final score. I have a bad feeling that this season is going to be a long one. Might be back to mediocre status next season.

Week 2 is in the books, and we saw some colorful games.

Chicago and Purdue struggled to keep up there week 1 form, but Fendt fought well - even though they lost - in a 14:21 defeat to divisional rival Hastings Park, who were a 2.2% favorite on the day.

Two big guns played their games against newcomers surprisingly close: The Juan Renegades had Season 3 champs TEC within a score until the fourth quarter (as 6.8% underdogs) and - for me the most interesting result his week - China Chimp played the two-times Conference Champion Slavia down to the wire in a 10:16 thriller. A close game throughout with just 47 Yards of Offense being the difference, and all that while Slavia was a whooping 9.3% favorite on the day. Close losses against big favorites are the first good sign of upcoming teams, they usually come right before the first big upsets...

(But maybe - probably - Slavia and TEC played the game relaxed and that was the reason the games were so close? Either way it can be dangerous to underestimate the new teams ... )

Looking forward to week 3!
