They looked pretty inept - Rooney was, as fairly usual, shocking and Nani even worse.

Their new Japanese buy (Kagawa?) looked good though - i just think Everton were fired up for it on the night though and Fellaini had a career game - but they are a decent team and will beat many more teams than they lose to - could be a good shout for 6th place IMO. United will be fine and are still the team to beat to win the league.

Everton has a nice starting 11, their problem will be once injuries and suspensions kick in later on in the season.

Kagawa looked alright, but I think that more about picking the least worse performer on the night for Man Utd. They really were shocking. I don't know how Scholes was still on the pitch at the end, his tackling was atrocious.

You can never doubt Fergie. Year after year, they are always up there. I think they've got a weaker team this year (but then I remember that they have a 30mill striker in Berbatov not even making the squad!) and realise they are better on the pitch than on paper.

Arsenal won't be anywhere near, and Chelsea dont put teams away like Man Utd and Man City. They are happy defending a 1-0 lead which leads to a few extra draws.

I have it between Man Utd and City again, with Chelsea knocking on the door if Torres finds form.

Lets hope the dirty little judas doesn't

How is Torres a Judas?

Going from Liverpool to Chelsea is a huge step forward - going from a team going nowhere fast apart from mid table obscurity to a team capable of challenging for the title season in, season out and genuine Champions League contenders....who won it again last season?

Im just amazed that Gerrard has stayed there, but i think he is past it now - he was still the best player we had at the Euros - but the competition wasnt exactly up to much....

sorry i do need to organise some new glasses but i cant remember chelsea getting within a postcode of the big dance in a while.

champions league is and will remain a cup competition FFS liverpool won it in 2005 with the worst team in living memory. For me the champions league should be preceeded with a trophy from domestic competition. If that means a carling cup (or whatever it is now) comes with a CL place then so be it at least you have to win something to enter.

gerrard in my opinion was poor by his standards at the Euros that italy game was made for him to take by the scruff of the neck and dominate but hodgsons back 10 orders won the day. They say we looked solid at the back well im hoping my birthday beers against italy gave me double vision.

The FA missed a beat 30 years ago liverpool, united, west ham and whatever side cloughie managed at the time were all playing good technical football but what do they promote. Graham Taylors percentage football as the way forward.

I've played and I've coached at reasonable levels too. All my teams play the same way KEEP THE BALL and the opposition cant score

Either way Torres is still a judas. He left a side with no chance of winning the league to join a side with a very slightly better chance of winning the league.

2011/12 : Chelsea 6th - 64 pts
Liverpool 8th - 52 pts

2010/11 : Chelsea 2nd - 71 pts
Liverpool 6th - 58 pts

2009/10 : Chelsea 1st - 86 pts
Liverpool 7th - 63 pts

Thats just the last three years.

Whilst i agree with you about the format of the Champions League fully, if teams are in it they can only play it and do their best. Chelsea won it last year - and beat arguably the greatest domestic team in history over 2 legs. They have consistently outperformed Liverpool and remain the closest thing to a title winning team outside of Manchester. So to me your argument that he has joined a team with a slightly better chance doesnt stack up at all - if he'd have joined Everton, Newcastle - maybe Spurs - youd have a case - but Chelsea? Thats not being a Judas. Thats jumping from a sinking wreck to a luxury liner - and he will come into his own now that Drogba has signed off.

I don't think Torres matters much this year having seen Hazard in the first two games. The guy is GOOD. He's impressed me more than Robben did in his whirlwind start for Chelsea.

A Suarez and Carroll partnership is the only way that Liverpool could find themselves challenging come may. I love Carroll, Fellaini showed that a big tall gangly forward still has a place in any team in the Premier. If Liverpool play him he will score. Unfortunately, I think the new boss wants to play "pretty" football, which is fine but not utilizing the assets they have got today. Instead, he's looking at implementing a system over a few years. The problem is will the owners be happy with a couple of up and down seasons until the team is ready? I doubt it.

My player to watch for the season (other than Hazard) is Podolski. I've loved him whenever I've seen him play and should suit the PL and bag 20+ given playing time.

Carroll will score if he has a decent supply line from the wings - but Liverpool do not have any decent wingers.

Anyone offering Stewart Downing as an example that the do have good players in wide areas will be met with a fate worse than death!

I like Downing but do not class him as your typical winger the same as giggs when he burst onto the scene. Both can play (obviously giggs is a lot better) but neither have ever been a decent crosser of the ball.

A fair few of my mates are Birmingham City fans and does anyone remember Jose Dominguez? Cracking player loads of pace and tricks but couldn't cross the road let alone put a decent ball into the box

Stewart Downing was absolutely brilliant ....... in Football Manager 2005 !

then again, in some of the earlier versions of Championship Manager .. players such as Julian Joachim and Chris Bart-Williams were World Class

Yeah I remember that so was Robbie Keane when he was at Wolves. Danny Murphy and Neil Lennon when they were at Crewe. Didn't the writers put themselves into one of the game and two players at somewhere like Cambridge were world beaters lol

I deliberately played one 'save game' season-after-season for a long time into the future to see what would happen .... it made me howl with laughter when I saw that Zinedine Zidane was a Physio at Notts County and David Beckham was a Scout at somewhere obscure (think it was Shrewsbury or somewhere like that ..... I can just imagine Victoria Beckham living in Shrewsbury ).
