Well done to the Wolves.

I've got to say though that I feel I have lost out in both playoffs largely due to the match engine.

The outside running means you cannot stop the run unless you have 2 killer DEs on the field at all times. And the OLBs seemingly do nothing. It seems almost the entire run D is dictated by the DL????

On the other side, the LBs all seem to be able to play the pass like Revis. I played 4WR sets all day vs the 3-3 (a prevent D) and completed 23/60 and 2 INT to, you guessed it, LBs!

Credit to the Wolves again though - I was hoping you were going to come out and Dime me as you did in your last 3 league games and suffer the OOPP for the 3rd and 4th CBs but it seems you woke up to that fact unfortunately for me.

Good luck to the remaining teams!

I actually ran some numbers on that today, and all stats indicate that run defense is for the most part correlated with number of people in the box, from a schematic perspective. So it'S not just the DL defending the run, it's the LBs too. In terms of units, number of LBs actually correalte more with run defense than number of DLs (think about how stout a 344 can look against the run...)

IF we assume that there are second level blocks, that would of course explain the slight invisibility of OLBs: There is always a TE or a OL out there blocking them out of the play which leaves DEs one on one with OT, a battle they often win since there are more good DL out there than OL...

I am happy with the idea that a 3-4 with a better 4th LB will play the run better than a 4-3 with a weaker 4th DL. But couldn't this also be related to the fact that a 3-4 only requires 3 good DL, and in any case the DEs are all important on outside running plays.

I have never seen a LB make a stop for < 5yds on an outside run. If there's an outside run it's either -

a) the DE makes a tackle for a 1 yd loss, no gain or gain of 1
b) a LB or SF makes the tackle for 5-20 yds, normally about 8 or 9.

I remember scouting the Bears last season b4 I played them and I worked out what he was doing. I thought his success was related to the outside running out of the SG4WR since it normally faced to OLBless Dime. So I played the 3-3 with 2 OLB on the field at all times - no difference!

Well, would anyone disagree that if the O has superior OTs compared to a D's DEs, and the O runs outside all day, then the O is going to have a field day running?

And how good the OLBs are will make little difference from what I've seen.

What's being exploited here is the "both flanks" setting in both running and passing. You'd think the D would adapt but it doesn't!

Atm you can build a great O just with 2 x great OTs, 2 x great WRs and a decent FB and QB.

I guess after some weeks laziness it is time for some more elaborate predictions:

Budapest Wolves vs. Chelsea Nation
The Wolves' against Landru was as good as it get but other than that I don't any significant win in the regular season. Their roster still reminds of the Lions during Millen's tenure. I don't get it
Chelseanation will be mightily pumped for this game and probably spend enormous time on preparation. I see them winning because of their well balanced team.

Quarry Bay Raiders vs. SimKonville Fraggles
The Raiders are my 2.1 nemesis. We played for seasons in NC West. I wasn't able to beat him once. I always was close in the first meeting and lost high in the second because of "adjustments". It was still back in those days where 533 was my base defense.
I'm not sure if I played a more talented team this year. His roster is mindblowing. The only chance I see is being well prepared and hope for luck. Mark_C666, it's great to match up again.

Slavia Pankrác vs. Styrian Bears
The same matchup happened in season 8 and Slavia was too big a force for the young Bear.
Slavia didn't look invincible in the regular season. But they still are the current champion and able to punish everyone. The Bears have an offense with a clear identity and thus know their strengths. If they don't get too fancy and all of a sudden move away from the Mike Martz stuff I see them staying on top. Their defense is underrated, you know.

Vienna Falcons vs. Landru Athletics
Sorry, notsch. It's time for a new face at the AC's top this year.
The regular season game was almost played like a friendly. wiesengrund tried some unusual stuff on defense and got Jaguars treatment. But I just have a feeling that the Falcons will come out on top this time. As he already said he ran "some" numbers. I don't really know what this means but it just sounds as he prepared the whole year for this game.

So, Bova: I still see a possible Austrian Bowl
