I do enjoy the game and I just don't want to offend anyone. This conversation seems to be rubbing some raw. I don't mean I won't EVER post again. Besides, I just posted and broke my promise.

And again Pete, thanks man. I am also a software engineer and I am so jealous you have put this together! This game is complex and incredibly fun.

I don't know much about programing but I know football & Pete has done a fine job. The games are fun and entertaining, I find myself talking to the computer screen.

I do like the idea of being able to put a cap on training a skill, and I would think defaultig to PC in such instances would be good. How many times do we see players for sale that ended up over trained in one skill?

over trained in one skill=higher selling price ("Asking price")
(manual :"The initial "Asking price" is determined automatically, by using the following ranges, based on mathematically rounded highest skill")

Also you mention about the long term. I hadn't fully considered that but now thinking of it you are right. It is going to take ages to recover. So like you I am going to be spending time 'just going through the motions' of playing this game but not enjoying it because there will be little or nothing that I can do.

This is the area we want to avoid. It is so easy to lose interest because you aren't able to compete and you see your team swirling the toilet because of "X" reason. I'm all for realism, and I think it falls in that bracket if a team is bankrupt then players won't stick around to be not paid. They should be able to release players to the TM for no penalty.

Dumba isn't wrong in that it bails out some poor management, but that's also realistic. At least in the US we bail out shitty companies and poorly managed situations all the time.

As a new player, I will say that I did see the financial warnings in the forecast, but we start with so much money and the game is deceptively complicated in regards to forecasting.

...only to find out a couple of seasons later that you screwed your team up long ago in your first season.

Now I am over $30 million in the hole and have to wait before I can enjoy the game again. It may be several seasons before I recover and get close to where I was competitively.

At that point you are probably better off starting a new team. Unless you have a few young players worth a ton, getting the new team bonus and free media center is absolutely worth starting over rather than digging your way out (although I appreciate the assiduousness.)" double parentheses! (I'm just trying to use 5th grade vocabulary words like my rival Malones.)

Gregariousness.

I change my suggestion on an extra account to this:

- every firing goes on that account, that way and inplementation would be easier.
- only if the account is zero you can enjoy all functionalities

By that you 'only' need to
- add an additional account / field in the db.
- shift the counting to that field for firing players and coaches (or all penalties)
- add a function to erase the amount (or parts of it) from that new account by substracting money from the original account
- add functionality to restrict access to certain services if the new field is > 0

Because of the manager licence and some other stuff there is already some restrictions possible, so at least from outside view this shouldn't be too much stuff on top to do.

With that you have the easy firing function with the financial impact, but without the deep grave you dig yourself in today.
Instead you can sort things out, get into positive figures and then you can pay the bill when the money is there.
Not an easy road, still easier than today.

Some good suggestions which I think would be helpful and add to my intial point that a) the warning comes too late to be helpful. You are already in a hole and can't dig out without digging deeper. b) Whatever you do at present does not help. c) We probably need some sort of forecast that highlights the fact that you will go bankrupt by week x if you do not take action. However, the actions should not themselves give you a further penalty (e..g at present cutting players makes the problem worse).

It is no fun playing in a situation where you know you can do nothing.

I appreciate some manager do not get into this situation but to say that those who do are lazy is disingenuous.

If we never changed rules then we would not have had democracy nor the industrial revolution nor would we have automation or IT since people would be saying 'Well this makes it easier for people than it was for me'. We should be moving forward and trying to be helpful to others, encourage them and promote their enjoyment of this wonderful game. Hats off to Pete for creating it and continuing to maintain it.

Let's take some positive action.

Maybe I am a bit dumb but I think this is too complicated. I think the easiest way is creating a reset button (or declare bankruptcy button) and start over with new players but applying some penalties (can not bid on TM for a season, no automatic pledge on Mediacenter and other similar things).

I think this way is fair, less complicated and kind of realistic (some football teams like Fiorentina and Rangers went bankrupt in real life but came back after a couple of years).

It's not complicated.

The process would be unchanged (if no change on the warnings would be made) and you start looking for cost savings.

If you are way in the hole on wages, of cause cutting players would be the best.

OLD SYSTEM: You cut players and pay a penalty, which brings you even deeper into the negative figures. That leads to a long period warnings, cutting players and so on.

SUGGESTION: You cut players. but it is put onto a new account, let's call it 'Liabilities'. It does not effect your current balance. Only con here, once the liabilities are >0 (so you own someone money) to-be-defined features are not useable, like transfer market. That way you don't dig yourself deeper into the hole. You recover more quickly into black figures and you can then at some point pay off the liabilities to use all features again.

Declaring bankrupt would mean from my point of view starting over totally, including stadium and so on, which does not seem to be very motivating.

With the liability yu could even play the whole season and win some games BEFORE erasing the liability account and you can basically progress with some sort of bump, but without a crash.
