First, I am not a coder so I have no idea if this suggestion is possible or reasonable.

Background information: In the NFL there are the following position coaches:
QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, Secondary, and Special Teams. There is also an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator. What is different here is that there aren't coordinators. Another difference is that instead of a secondary coach we have a cb and a sf coach. There is also a FB coach here but typically not in the NFL (although that is partly due to the drop in use of FB in current football).

Proposal:

1st step: Restructure position coaches so that FB is combined with RB or OL or TE. CB and SF are combined into a Secondary Coach.

That brings the position coach positions down from 11 to 9.

Now we add in an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator. To unlock one of these coordinators you have to have all the positions coaches filled within that category. I would put special teams under defense coordinator. I know it is imbalanced offense with 5 position coaches and defense with 3 plus special teams to make 4. However, I don't think it will be that big a detriment.

As for those coordinators, they are more expensive and it is still impossible to have all coaches.

Having a coordinator would give you a training and/or game performance bonus or perhaps it helps mostly with just team chemistry and morale?

This restructure could help to create team styles such as defensive teams that run more or offensive teams with less defense.

What kind of influence in the game simulation itself should ACs lose, and what kind of influence should coordinators have - both to the training and game sim?

I asked this before - so I would say that - an AC could train players skills, but the Offensive Coor and the Defensive Coor - could train tactics { like a WR QB v CB SF pass drill} {OL RB v DL LB run drill } HC told about a running play, could then take extra skill points from run drill { better carrying in a middle run or an outside on a sweep} so more match skill than player.. Pete would that work? They call it a 7 on 7 in Football - - - you could then have as the Passing Facilities { Target} work out, or Redzone.

I'll bring back an old thought here: OCs and DCs could have formations they specialize in, giving the team a bonus when they run that formation. But of course, other teams would know that's the case if they do their due diligence in scouting.

Also, whatever happened to the concept that was kicked around previously about coaches having traits, similar to players to give more interest to the coaching staff?

it might be interesting to have a structure more similar to real football: HC, OC, DC, STC and Assistant.
HC maintains its current characteristics,
OC, DC and STC should help the HC to choose the best solution during the game, while the assistants would maintain their function for training and give a boost during the game with their players. Actual influence of AC with theri players must be reduced (how much i don't know, may be 30-40%?) to insert OC & DC.
STC may gain more power: Special Team are a huge part of this game.
The CP point may be raised a bit or mantained (2 powerfull figure -> few AC)

thanks for reading

I really kind of dislike changing the AC structure. It provides a in my view good way to add some diversity to the coaching. Removing coaches from the list is somehow counter-productive ...
