Week 2 League Review

Week 2 of the season delivered an exhilarating display of talent and competitive spirit, with several teams showcasing their prowess on the field. The standout result was the Sydney Sloths' overwhelming 44-0 victory over the Coconuts, highlighting their offensive firepower and solid defense.

In a closely contested matchup, the Nasty Thunders edged out the Champ Chompers with a 36-28 win, demonstrating resilience and strategic gameplay. In hindsight, this was clearly the match of the week! Meanwhile, the Gladiatori Roma continued their impressive form with a commanding 48-21 win over Neroverde, reinforcing their status as strong contenders in the NC this season.

Not the most surprising result perhaps, came from Bonaval Acorns, who secured a convincing 37-9 win against Galaktische Kickers, asserting their dominance early in the season. Reapers also made a statement with a dominant 41-17 victory over Charleston Battery. Not the best Game of the Week pick, if I say so myself!

Most other teams continued their streak of success, dismantling their BOT opponents with ease, further showcasing the depth and talent spread across the league.

Overall, Week 2 was marked by high scores, decisive victories, and promising performances, setting an exciting tone for the weeks to come.

Good game gccsteel. I know it didn't end the way you wanted, but you forced 2 INT's from my starter and didn't throw an INT yourself! I'd say that part is an improvement!

I think maybe the ratings system is not quite accurate. You have a lot of top end talent that I lack, yet we are only 4% points difference. It was a little frustrating to have you pass down the field at will with a called pass defense the entire way. Multiple times. In fact, you only threw 8 passes against a called run defense yet you had 350+ yards.

I didn't modify my playbook prior to the game. The link you sent was stuff I already knew, unfortunately. I am looking for mechanics rather than guidelines, which either don't exist or no one will freely share.

I definitely have some improvements to make on my offense. I'm taking baby steps with the most important part for me now making sure I can understand which rule was called and why so I can see the results. Defense is OKAY, but offense is in trouble if I can't establish the run.

Nobody will share the playbook itself that will allow you to analyze and compare it to games so that you can comprehend the mechanics. And as far as the engine mechanics, even Pete has kept that a close secret as he doesn't want to give that info out. It's designed so that us managers have to figure out what works and doesn't. I have no info to give on playbook as everything I know came from that thread and I've been trying for a few seasons to come up with a better playbook, and I just made a new one I'll test next game against a bot team.

As far as the ratings system, yes and no. What I've learned is the rating takes into account your entire roster, including depth. Some of the best teams have super star starters and 3 star crappy backup players. This makes their OVR lower than what it would be if it only took into account their starters. So what most of us do is try to have depth that have the traits and physicals we need, and let them develop while getting minimal playing time as rotational pieces. This keeps our roster cost down but makes us vulnerable when our second string comes in. But if you have 2 good RBs, 7 or 8 good DL, 5 good OLB, 2 good QBs, etc.. your OVR will be MUCH higher and you will not really be any better than a team with 1 super star at each position and crap backup players if you manage the roster well. As in don't let them get too tired so your backups play more, or if you have to deal with injuries. At least that's what I feel from my experience.

iirc, between season 3 and 4, I let go of a bunch of low rated players from my depth chart. I had too many players on my roster to use the auto depth function (which I highly recommend never using!) so I cut my roster down by 7 or 8 players. These are guys that were terrible, but I just had on my roster because I hadn't moved to the HR department yet. When I cut those guys, my team OVR jumped by almost 4 points. Maybe there are other mechanics behind that, but that is just my opinion on what happened.

I don't know if it takes into account the Talent level or not, or the experience or not. But my team has dropped the last 2 seasons in OVR just from removing 2 or 3 high end starters. I was a 77 OVR 2 seasons ago, but I had an amazing QB, 2 amazing DL and 2 amazing WR and a couple very good CB's. Over 2 seasons, just dropping those players and replacing them with above average players dipped my OVR by almost 8 points. My team is not as good as it was, but it's also still much more competitive now at 69 OVR than it was when I had a deeper roster at 72 OVR a couple of seasons ago.

Not sure if this helps, but it's just some thoughts I have from my experience. Maybe someone else here knows more and can enlighten us both.

**Game of the Week: Gladiatori Roma (2-0) vs. Champ Chompers (0-2)**
Undefeated Gladiatori Roma continue their perfect start, aiming to extend their winning streak as they host the struggling Champ Chompers, who are still seeking their first win. Gladiatori’s balanced attack and stout defense have made them a top contender, while the Chompers, ranked 7th in league passing yards, are eager to turn their season around. Will Gladiatori Roma maintain their flawless record, or will the Chompers finally bite back?

**Key Matchup: IONS (1-1) vs. Bonaval Acorns (2-0)**
After a blowout win over a BOT team last week, IONS are looking to keep their momentum alive. They previously lost their Week 1 game but now sit at 1-1. Bonaval Acorns continue their undefeated streak, both teams tied for the league lead in interceptions. This battle could hinge on turnovers—will IONS’ offensive surge continue, or will the Acorns’ defensive pressure prevail?

- - -

**Important Divisional Clash: Akron's Pro's (2-0) vs. Neroverde (1-1)**
Neroverde sits third in their division behind the undefeated Bonaval Acorns and Gladiatori Roma. Akron’s Pro's, ranked 5th in league in total rushing yards, look to keep their ground attack dominant against Neroverde, who seeks to rebound after a tough loss. Expect a gritty contest as both teams vie for division positioning and crucial league points.

Happy Independence Day!

Am I wasting my time posting on here? These forums are more dead this season than even last, and by far the worst I've seen since I started playing the game.

Great game Gladiatori!

That was right down to the end, can't believe who that game ended, just some sheer bad luck on your end I thought you had that wrapped up.

Good luck in the rest of the season!

Well, I had two of the games of the week picked about right.

Game of the Week: Gladiatori Roma vs. Champ Chompers

In a fiercely contested battle, the Champ Chompers pulled off a dramatic comeback to secure their first win of the season. Trailing heading into the fourth quarter, the Chompers staged an impressive rally, scoring 17 unanswered points to overturn a late deficit and claim a 24-21 victory over Gladiatori Roma.

This win moves the Chompers to a 1-2 record, still sitting at the bottom of their division but with newfound confidence after their comeback performance. For Gladiatori Roma, the loss marks their first of the season, dropping their record to 2-1 and into second place in their division.

The game was a showcase of resilience and clutch performance. Roma looked poised to extend their lead late in the game, but the Chompers’ relentless effort and timely plays proved decisive. A pivotal fourth-quarter touchdown run and a crucial fumble recovery turned the tide in favor of the Chompers, igniting their rally and sealing the win.

Fans were on the edge of their seats as the Chompers’ offense ignited in the final minutes, and both teams displayed grit and determination throughout. This game promises to be a highlight of the season and sets the stage for an exciting rematch down the line.

Other Notable Game: Akron Pro's vs. Neroverde

The matchup between the Akron Pro's and Neroverde was a rollercoaster ride, featuring relentless back-and-forth action that kept fans on their toes until the final whistle. Both teams traded blows throughout the game, with the Pro's managing to edge out Neroverde with a 31-24 victory and remain undefeated at 3-0.

The game saw the Pro's score a touchdown in each of the four quarters, complemented by a crucial field goal in the fourth quarter that helped seal the win. Neroverde started slow, managing only a field goal in the first quarter. However, they fought back with a touchdown in each of the final three quarters, keeping the game tight and intense.

On the offensive side, Akron’s quarterback threw for two touchdowns, showcasing his efficiency and poise under pressure. Neroverde’s quarterbacks combined for three touchdowns and an interception, demonstrating resilience but also vulnerability against the Pro's relentless pass rush.

The most impactful stat of the game was the Pro's defense tallying five sacks against Neroverde’s quarterbacks. This relentless pass rush disrupted Neroverde’s rhythm, forcing hurried throws and contributing significantly to their offensive struggles. The pressure created turnovers and kept Neroverde from gaining momentum in critical moments.

Despite the spirited fight from Neroverde, Akron Pro's defense and balanced offensive attack were too much to overcome. The Pro’s remain a top contender in the division, while Neroverde will look to rebound and tighten up their protection in upcoming games.

Hope you guys enjoyed this week as much as I did. These games were outstanding.
