I've decided to retire from the game, I just don't understand it. Read all the forum posts, built a roster that was the best in the game and still got destroyed by the top teams and often lost to decent Elite teams, but whose starters were worse than my backups. Got a lot of guys retiring this season, but have quite a bunch of still really good players with high teamwork, intelligence, or both along with 50str or 50 spd or both, good agility, and usually at least one useful trait too. Have a look, lots of really good players available.

It's not about material on field, only. Period!

Thank for trying, good luck

I think the reasoning here is a bit off. In RZA, the players are mostly just commodities—there’s not a huge difference between fully developed Elite league players. Take the QBs, for example. Which one really stands out as being head and shoulders above the rest? There’s no Brady or Mahomes in the mix. The differences between them are pretty marginal.

In my opinion, what truly sets teams apart is the playbooks and play styles. That’s where the real distinction lies. Just my two cents.

Just my 2 cents, maybe with a bad compare, but it did strike me yesterday when playing that game, I will explain now. And I apologize for the long post up front.

See, I play right now a game on steam called drop duchy, it's basically Tetris with every block having specific skills, like a field, a forest, a river, each giving resources to boost your card set (having buildings), which is also included in the blocks to drop, giving you military strength or boost to the amount of resources the other blocks generate.
On top do hostile building drop, too, up to 4 times.

At the end, when the map is filled up with blocks (they do not vanish, like in the real Tetris), you need to defeat the hostile forces on the hostile blocks with your military strength. If you can not do that, you lose, if you do win, you collect the resources, boost your cards, get new cards and play again against a stronger opponent or against a boss-level endgame opponent.

The game offers a scissor, stone and paper system to defeat troops and depended on your card set you can send the troops (say a stone) to a paper unit or another stone unit or a scissor unit. It's important what to do when, because if you do it the wrong way, a smaller bunch of hostile groups can take down the much larger group of yours, and vice versa, you can win a round with great selection of when to fight who, even when you are outnumbered.

There are of course limits, you cannot win if you are WAY smaller, you cannot lose, if you have WAY more troops. But usually you land in a position, where a win is possible, if you do s e l e c t the troops right. And that starts already by selecting the right cards before the round starts, it goes on with letting the blocks fall into the best place possible and ends with the right sequence to defeat the enemy. You can repeat a level several time, with the same setup, and depended on the strategy and the random factor, when which block comes up, it can be a heavy defeat, a small win or a great victory.

Now the switch to RZA, which works quite similar.
You need good players, but you need them on the right play at the right time to have the math fall into your favor. The best troops are not enough, if you send your stone into a bunch of paper.

I admit, this game here is regarding this irritating and not transparent.
I suck heavily on the playbook part, mainly, because I do not invest the time to prepare for every game and I do not invest much time in creating playbooks.

So, I understand the frustration on the building part and not winning, but whoever wants to win on highest level, needs to invest on playbook development and adjustments.

Sad to read this, but I can feel your frustration.

Been there a lot of times, but still here.

And still don't understand this game. And still thinking there is a lot of random factor in it.

Good luck to you in your real life this is just a game.

One thing I'd say is I've gone through the phase of frustration too. I had good set of players and was consistently destroyed by Elite teams. Then I started playing around with playbook, looking at what other teams do and did some changes that started to finally bring results. Better players give you better chances of winning specific situations, but there are 100+ plays, thousands of one on one matchups, and things happen. And I'm sort of happy it's not only about the players

A good example was my game vs Space Kraken this season. They were favorites on paper, but used an experimental playbook and I won by 50+ points.

So don't despair. If you have passion for the game, play around with your playbook, look what other opponents are doing, play matchups. Hope you change your mind!
