In a recent game i played against an opponent who predominently used the i-formation.

They had around 30 plays where they ran from this formation and 30 plays where the passed.

My defence set up against the run on every occasion.

I checked my playbook and although i have "prefer run" set up for this is do have a different formation in there for pass.

Shouldnt the game have at keast switched it up a little?

I think it depends on the opponent's play calling. Since he had an even amount of run and pass total for the game, it's possible he would do something like run, pass, run, pass, ect. Or maybe run, run, pass, pass, run, ect. If you had your defense play the run as a first choice, he'd have to do multiple passes in a row before your defense switches to your pass defense. If i understand it right, the more runs he does in a row, especially early in the game, the more passes it would take before the defense adjusts.

It looks like they always ran on 1st and passed on 2nd out of I-form, if you had 533 set for run on 2nd and a different formation for pass, it should have changed to the pass formation, as far as I know. What exactly does your defensive playbook say to do on 2nd against I-form?

A question came up just now about this „left“ and „right“ thing in the log of a game.

I have this situation:

1 and 10 to go on own 43, OC snaps the ball to QB, QB selected WR/R as target, OLB/R seems to go for the blitz, the receiver of this inner right pass catches the ball, the tackle was missed by SS/L, this was a 57 yards pass (Flexbone vs. 3-4-4)

touchdown

As of now I understand it that way: From the perspective of the QB he’s throwing the ball to his right, but the blitzing OLB comes from his left, correct? So the long TD was not a result of a hole being exploited where the OLB should be, yes? Except, of course, the inner right pass is to a crossing receiver who runs into the hole on the left...

If it’s the OLB coming down blitzing on the same side to where the pass is going, though… I would have to tweak my defensive PB a little…

You are right, pass to right and blitz from the left. But it is zone defense and the left mlb is likely to take the left inner box the right mlb the middle and the olb the right. Likely just Bad luck

Let’s not forget the Strong Safety missing the tackle, too… and he’s low on team chemistry due to repositioning.

Hopefully that get’s better once he’s back at 100 % again
