The demo negotiation works as expected. After talking with other owners I do believe the issue is that you can not sign a player during a game. Normally, you are not allowed to start negotiation during a game, but for some reason it allowed me to for this player which caused the error after I placed a bid.

how did you start the process, out of the transfer market?

Yes I started from the transfer market. I believe the “start” button originally was not showing but after I refreshed the page it showed up and so I placed my bid
