Hi:
When I set up the game orders, there is the final part that tells me how to act on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th downs. If I report a formation to "Pass formation", does that mean I will ALWAYS play that formation on those downs? Or just as a priority but will I also play other passing formations? |

From what i remember yes, you will play only x formation for passing and y formations for rushing.
But go to Games -> Scrimmages, book a scrimmage game and see for yourself what happens. |

The people doesn't use that feature?
I mean, the people use to play with no set up the pass or rush formation at game settings? Last edited on 2026-03-11 07:36:22 by ardebof |

I think the vast majority use the playbook feature, since it is essential for a competitive style of play. As soon as the playbook is used, the formation selection in the game settings becomes obsolete.
Check this out from the manual: Manual - Playbook |

If you limit the formation to a certain one, like I-Formation for Pass, it uses that for passing. It's very straight forward. There is one tiny exception: In roughly 2% of all plays the QB gets creative and calls a different play than you might have setup. That's valid for game settings and playbooks. In game settings you might not even see the different play, because you might have a quite open setup. Not many use the game setup feature and use instead the playbook feature, because it gives a bit more control over the called plays. It works like this: If a play is defined in the playbook for that game situation, quarter, down, distance to the goal, score and all that, that play is used. If not, the settings are used. Usually most managers have 99% to 100% plays defined in the playbook. But it's up to you. I did for seasons use game settings and it worked also. The random selection by the engine on pass/rush gives a better surprising element than any playbook can do, but on the other hand you might end up with a play you did not wanted to have in that situation. And I had the impression, the turnover rate, especially on pass plays, were higher with game settings. That might come from that pass/pass mid/pass long feature you find in the playbook and the engine picks a distance in the game settings selection by random. But I could not prove that, so it might be nothing or not. |
