Near the equator there is not much difference between daylight in winter and summer.
As you move further North or South away from the equator there is much greater difference in the amount of daylight in Winter and Summer, so Daylight saving is used to move local time so there is more useable daylight when people are out and about the most. |

I know this is kinda off-topic, but I honestly prefer no daylight savings time but I can certainly see the benefits of it... maybe its just me being ecstatic when November hits and the extra hour comes, and me being disappointed when we lose an hour in March, however its not that bad... I mean now that I think about I am somewhat neutral on it but slightly leaning towards Standard time... Near the equator there is not much difference between daylight in winter and summer.
