I just had a quick look at the Dragons 1.1 Player Trophies for Season 8
 .........
Ignoring some of the players from human-controlled teams that got awards and probably shouldn't have done  ...... I noticed that 4 players from Malakas Bull were awarded Trophies :-
2nd best punter, 1st Gunner, 1st & 2nd Gunner Seems to make the whole thing a laughing stock considering this team was Bot for 14 games out of 16.
Maybe the criteria for selection needs looking at ? Having said that, the Gunner/Kick Returner categories are a bit of a joke anyway as plenty of teams have no G/KR's therefore the selection pool must be scarily thin for those positions. btw .... just to see what I'm alluding to, check the season stats for the Punter ...... 14 League games, 7 supercup games .......... Punt average of 21.3 yards and that gets you an award ??

Seriously: work on your wording, it may not please you, but calling it a mess is out of focus. If teams decide to carry gunners, and get awarded for it...while other teams save these player costs and play whoever as gunner...I cant see anything wrong in awarding these trophies... |

Is a Punter from a Bot team with a Punt average of 21.3 yards really the 2nd best Punter in Dragons 1.1 ?
I don't think so. IMO, these awards have a bias for 'quantity' over 'quality', hence why bot team punters are getting awards .... plenty of punts (because the team is crap and can't move the ball) but the punts are a short distance (low quality). Another example .... the Linebacker that won the award isn't the best linebacker in Dragons 1.1 (IMO) .... but he's the busiest and most overworked LB in the League because he's on a team with just one LB on the entire roster ....... so he'll probably have the most tackles in the League .... another example of quantity over quality.
I think that the criteria needs looking at .... to move the emphasis away from quantity and more to quality. I doubt if you'll agree with me though, because you never do.  |

How do you measure quantitiy of a punter other than counting his punt yards average?

Quantity would (probably) be the number of punts during the season. Quality would (probably) be the length of the punts (punt average is a reasonable proxy for this). Question still remains ....... is a 21.3 yard Punter the 2nd best in Dragons 1.1 ? |

Don't take this personally, but .... take a step back and try to see it from the perspective of 'The average RZA Manager' (whoever he may be ).
Let's call him Fred. Fred will see 'player Trophies Season 8', look at the 'winners' and probably be baffled that (a) a Team that has been Bot for 14 games has 4 players winning Trophies (b) one of those players is a punter averaging 21 yards. so ... in Fred's mind, the whole 'player Trophies' thing starts to become devalued and loses credibility. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing well. You don't have to listen to/take notice of my criticism if you don't want ... but it's actually constructive criticism ....... and maybe (just maybe) other Managers are thinking the same thing too (or maybe it's just me ).
