So I've been going through the skills which an OL or DL would need, and I've made a nice little discovery (for me at least) which leaves me with a couple of questions.
The first one is TW. From the manual: Teamwork is also important for Blocking and Tackling in the line or multiplayer tackles. How important is this? Could this make the difference between a good and a great lineman? Did you guys even factor this in when building your O/D line? Quite frankly I always thought it's a nice thing to have, but only for the faster training progress...didn't even know it was needed for better blocking/tackling. Do we even have multiplayer tackles/blocks in the engine? Seeing how the OC has the least blocks out of the OL, I'd say not at the moment... The second thing is agility. Again, from the manual: Agility helps carrying the ball and avoiding tackles and blocks and sacks. For DE I try to train a little agility, get them above 15 at least, but I can't say I care much about agility when looking at an OL. If I remember correctly, Pete doesn't give any position an advantage over the other, so if there's something a player is good at, there is always something the opposing player can counter it with. So if my OT is missing a lot of blocks, this can boil down to the fact (among other factors of course, but let's say those are evened out) that the DE has good agility, and he avoids said blocks. So to counter this do I have to train some agility for my OT as well? Or rather speed? This brings up the question, should we train our OL the same way we do it with the DL (so OT like DE, OG like DT, and OC the same way as NT)? Opinions please! |

Very interesting questions...
About TW: I'm not sure, but think it's "nice to have" thing. About AGI: from "OL Theory" thread: "dpierce wrote: Agility is third behind blocking and strength for a tackle. Speed rushers eat strong but immobile tackles in American football. Speed isn't much needed for offensive linemen. Admin wrote: This guy has source code access" It's intriguing me |

Special traits:
Pass Blocker This player knows how to protect the QB, 5% bonus to agility and blocking for OL, FB and TE This sort of implies that agility has some importance for O-Linemen. Interestingly, it doesn't mention that this is limited to passing blocking situations - - I'm sure its probably an oversight...but you never know. Steve SD Blitz |

Actually, the other issue I've been curious about it DT/NT missed tackles. Maybe my builds are bad, but it seems to be were I miss the most tackles.
I can't quite figure out why one DL is better than the other in this regard - - all my players have similar Tackling skills, but footwork, vision, TW, intelligence, strength don't seem to play a huge factor (from my limited sample size). Steve SD Blitz |

Steve SD Blitz Does it stay the same when you play with your Depth chart? What happens if you switch positions inside the line? |

Well...I think part of the problem is that most of my DLs have fairly similar builds.
Certainly DTs seem to have more and a higher percentage of missed tackles than DEs. I'm not sure if this is how they are matched up in the game engine or what. I am pretty generous with my substitutions, so my D-Linemen should be pretty fresh. I don't know, I guess I could crank up the percentage and see what happens. Thanks, Steve SD Blitz |
